Amorim does not believe Fernandes has played his last game for Man United

[HONG KONG] Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim does not believe Bruno Fernandes has played his last game for the team, saying after Friday's 3-1 win over Hong Kong in a friendly that he had a feeling his captain planned to stay. The game at Hong Kong Stadium was played amid swirling talk that Saudi Pro-League club Al Hilal are prepared to splash out 100 million pounds (US$134.73 million) for the Portuguese midfielder. Asked at a press conference if it was Fernandes' last game in a United shirt, Amorim said: 'I don't think so. I don't know for sure. I think he wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things. 'The club can find other ways to make money. The feeling I get is that he wants to continue for sure with Man United, you never know.' Fernandes had suggested after the season's final game that he could be sold to balance the books. Amorim acknowledged the 30-year-old player was 'so frustrated' in many games in a horrible season where they finished 15th, their worst Premier League campaign. 'Of course, I'm the manager. I'm the coach, but sometimes it's a decision of the player. But of course I talk with him, I explain things and I just have that feeling when I talk to someone, you have the feeling if he wants to stay.' United trailed at halftime on Friday after a 19th-minute goal from Juninho, but Chido Obi scored shortly after the break and in the 82nd minute. Ayden Heaven struck in the 94th minute. The victory at least salvaged something positive after United had been booed for their performance in a 1-0 loss to ASEAN All-Stars in Malaysia. They were also ridiculed for an open-top bus parade in Kuala Lumpur. Amorim still deemed the tour a success. 'We have a clear idea of what we want. Of course we are a little bit limited, we cannot do everything in one summer, but we have a clear picture of what we want,' he said. REUTERS

Ruben Amorim reveals Manchester United transfer stance after Europa League final failure

Matheus Cunha is expected to be the first arrival at Old Trafford if United trigger his £62.5m release clause with Wolves but Amorim has accepted they lack the leeway to bring in many arrivals, because of Financial Fair Play. He is also expected to target a striker for his low-scoring team, with interest in Ipswich's Liam Delap, who has a £30m release clause after their relegation. But Amorim thinks United will need fewer players next season as he suggested they may not replace those who are leaving, such as the out-of-contract trio of Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen. 'Without the Champions League, we also don't need a big squad,' he explained in Kuala Lumpur on their post-season tour. "We can control the squad in a better way. Then we have a plan, that is to bring in some new players, but our big plan is to improve the team we have, to improve the academy. It's a good opportunity to see the young players and sometimes we have surprises like Ayden [Heaven], who every time he has played, has proved that he's a first-team player.' United are expected to try and sell Marcus Rashford, when he returns to Old Trafford after his loan at Aston Villa, while they are waiting to see if Chelsea buy Jadon Sancho or pay a penalty fee of £5m to return him. Antony is another who has been out on loan and could be available for transfer. But Amorim accepts that incomings will be limited, whatever happens. He added: "We have financial fair play rules, so we are not allowed to do so much this summer. "The important thing is to stick together. We are going to struggle and it is not going to be everything right away. I have a feeling the team is improving and that is the most important thing." Amorim also repeated that he is keen to keep captain Bruno Fernandes, who is wanted by Saudi Pro-League club Al-Hilal. He said: 'You can see by the performance. You can see by the leadership. You can see the passion he has for the game. In difficult moments Bruno is the guy who takes responsibility. He should do because he is the captain. He is really important for us and what we want to build for the team."

West Ham star Mohammed Kudus lined up to join Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr as £120m transfer clause emerges

AL-NASSR are prepared to bid £85.5m for West Ham's Mohammed Kudus, according to reports. Transfer expert Ben Jacobs claims the winger's release clause is £120m for Saudi clubs - £35m more than for Premier League clubs - but Nassr are confident West Ham will sell for less. 2 The Saudi Pro-League club previously made an approach for him in January after Brighton rejected their £76.9m bid for Kauru Mitoma and are not certain that he will take this second offer. Mitoma, Bournemouth 's Antoine Semenyo and Liverpool 's Luis Diaz have been named as other Premier League targets. Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax for £38m in 2023 after scoring 18 goals and collecting seven assists in the 2022/23 season. Yet he hasn't enjoyed the same form in his second season in England that he did in his first. Kudus managed 28 goals and assists in all competitions in 2023/24 but this season has only six in 30 games and hasn't scored since December. This mirrors the form of the club as West Ham currently sit 17th with the oldest average squad age in the Premier League (28.5). Manager Graham Potter will want to make big changes to his squad in the summer and the club are facing numerous departures. While there is doubt over whether Kudus will want to move, the money that he could generate despite his downturn in form will be attractive. Last weekend the London club drew with Southampton who are the first Premier League club to be relegated with seven games remaining. They will look to improve on that performance as they travel to the Amex to face Potter's old club Brighton on Saturday.
