Isolated thunderstorm Wednesday. Heavy rain & severe risk late week-weekend.
NEW ORLEANS — What a fabulous evening! Spring is in the air. Temperatures only falling into the lower 60s overnight, upper 50s north of the lake. Patchy dense fog likely again. Weak cold front nears the area on Wednesday, so I bumped the rain chance to 20% for an isolated thunderstorm or two on the Northshore into the Mississippi Coast. Watching the late week(Friday-Saturday) setup closely — This forecast is a bit challenging, as the timing is very difficult to project at this stage. This system doesn't look to be moving all that quickly, so in addition to a severe potential, heavy rain & flash flooding may be a more sizeable concern. What we know: there is a growing risk for thunderstorms. The question is when & for how long? Right now, the model consensus shows the greatest risk from 6PM Friday-6PM Saturday across the central Gulf Coast with most models showing the heaviest in southeast Louisiana overnight Friday-mid day Saturday. However, expect that time range to become more fine-tuned & shift as we get closer. And, we could see another risk for storms by Monday…spring storm season is upon us. Stay tuned!
