US authorities urge Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution
The US State Department is urging American citizens overseas to exercise increased caution amid the mounting tensions in the Middle East.
The department issued a Worldwide Caution Security Alert on Sunday.
It noted that the "conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East."
It also said there is the "potential for demonstrations against US citizens and interests abroad."
The US Department of Homeland Security issued an advisory on Sunday, warning of possible cyberattacks against US networks by pro-Iranian hackers.
It also noted that the likelihood of extremists in the US "independently mobilizing to violence" would likely increase if the Iranian leadership called for retaliatory violence against targets in the US.
