Nebraska adds Australian punter Archie Wilson
Nebraska football officially added punter Archie Wilson to the roster on Monday. This was reported by multiple media outlets.
Wilson trained at Pro Kick Academy in Australia, a place that is known for developing punters.
Wilson's addition fits with the vision of special-teams coach Mike Ekeler. He is a rugby-style punter, which involves rolling out before kicking the football.
This addition is significant, given that the Huskers parted ways with Jack McAllister earlier this spring. McAllister had arrived in Lincoln before Eckler's arrival, and the special teams direction immediately shifted. Now, Wilson will compete for the starting job, as the Huskers continue to round out their roster.
It will be interesting to see what this special-teams unit looks like and how Wilson will make an impact on it. The Huskers averaged 39.4 net yards per punt last season, with Brian Buschini handling the punting duties.
