And he is adamant that his confidence has not been rocked by the fact that Beadle said: 'Overall it was a big learning experience to grow as a player and grow as a person. A lot of things happened, good games, bad games, but overall just a good time of improvement for me. 'Towards the end of my time at Wednesday I don't think I really performed to my best for whatever reason. Now after taking a step back I understand why and in this tournament and looking ahead I know what I need to do to be at my best more consistently.' 'I know how good I am, I know I can perform at that level, and in the future I know what I need to do to stay more at my level. 'Sometimes you've got to take a step back to properly look at it and that's when I came out of the team. It was really hard to take at the time but when you take a step back and realise how I was actually performing, it is what it is. 'I don't really go on social media or anything, I try to live in my own bubble, but at the time when results aren't going well and you aren't performing at the level you can you know you're going to get criticised. I have no issue being criticised if I know I'm not performing to the level I can.' He added: 'We're at least on par if not better when you look at the talent in this squad. We can definitely compete and try to turn them over. 'It's been a long build-up now to the tournament and the main goal for us is winning. As a country now we want to start winning things and it starts at youth ages like Under-21s so that's what we want to do.' England kick-off their Euro campaign against the Czech Republic on Thursday. Photograph: Conor Molloy/ProSports/Shutterstock The Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has said he 'does not regret' making an obscene gesture to fans in Kuala Lumpur, claiming they had insulted his mother. After United's 1-0 friendly defeat by Asean All-Stars on Wednesday, footage emerged on social media of Amad putting his middle finger up to fans outside the team hotel. 'I shouldn't have reacted like that but I don't regret what I did. We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.' The club told the BBC that the gesture was in response to 'serious personal abuse' the Ivorian had suffered. It was another unwanted distraction for the Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, who is preparing his team to face Hong Kong's representative side . Speaking to media in Hong Kong before the friendly, Amorim admitted he was ready to 'turn the page' after a dismal season which saw United finish 15th in the table and lose the Europa League final to Tottenham. Advertisement 'We've had the season that we had and it's not easy to face the fans around the world, so it's a moment that is hard for us and we want to finish the season,' Amorim said. 'But at the same time we want to give something to the fans. We are travelling, we don't have time to adapt, we don't have so much time to have contact with the fans. 'If there is one thing that is really important in this club, it's that we need to face our fans in this moment and give something to our fans around the world. We want to give something to the fans, but it's hard in this moment. We just want to turn the page and improve next season.' Amorim claimed his team of first-teamers and youngsters was 'not really focused' in Wednesday's defeat in Malaysia, and that he could understand fans venting their anger. 'I understand the fans [booing],' he said. With heavy rain lashing the 40,000-capacity Hong Kong Stadium on the eve of the game, Amorim is again expected to heavily rotate his squad. 'If we are professional and we focus on the game it is the best way to protect our players from injuries,' the 40-year-old said. Advertisement Three senior players – Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot and André Onana – have flown to a supporter engagement event in India so are unavailable, while the left-back Luke Shaw is injured. 'I will try to divide [the squad] because I don't want all the young kids all together,' Amorim said. 'We want to be competitive. If they are fit, they will play, and we will have the maximum respect for everybody here and for our fans.'

Sunderland keen to keep Bellingham and consider Henderson approach

Photograph: Malcolm Mackenzie/ProSports/Shutterstock The Sunderland owner, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, is determined to keep Jobe Bellingham after the club's promotion to the Premier League despite growing interest from Germany in the England Under 21 midfielder. The newly promoted club are also considering an attempt to re-sign Jordan Henderson 14 years after he was sold to Liverpool for £20m. The 34-year-old England midfielder was at Wembley to watch the playoff final victory and is expected to be allowed to leave Ajax this summer. Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested in the 19-year-old, who scored four goals in 42 appearances in the Championship last season. But while reports in Germany have stated that Bellingham – who is expected to be part of Lee Carsley's England squad for the European Under-21 Championships later this summer – could be allowed to leave for around €30m (£25m), Louis-Dreyfus is understood to be reluctant to sanction his sale because he is considered to be a crucial member of the team. Tommy Watson, the 19-year-old who scored the dramatic last-minute winning goal in the playoff final against Sheffield United, has already been snapped up by Brighton for next season and Sunderland would prefer to retain their best players to give themselves a better chance of Premier League survival. Crystal Palace have also shown an interest in signing Bellingham, although he is thought to prefer to follow in his brother's footsteps by moving to the Bundesliga. If he is allowed to depart, then former club Birmingham would be due a sizeable sell-on fee.

Porteous thrives in golf and career: ‘The best part is, I get to enjoy both

Garrick Porteous may have stepped away from full-time professional golf, but his competitive fire hasn't dimmed. The two-time HotelPlanner Tour winner continues to make his mark on the course while balancing a career at ProSports International. His recent victory at The Montgomerie Golf Club proves he's still got it. Carding a superb six-under 66, Porteous clinched the 16th round of the Emirates PGA, a confidence boost ahead of next month's HotelPlanner (formerly Challenge Tour) events. Alongside his role as brand manager at ProSports International—the Middle East's leading golf distributor—Porteous remains fully immersed in competitive golf. With the company's backing, he competes in local PGA events while gearing up to defend his Abu Dhabi Challenge title, a tournament he won last year at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club. 'It's great to compete still while having the security of a full-time job,' said Porteous, who hails from Colchester, England. 'Winning an event like this and then heading into the office to congratulates from everyone at ProSports is a great feeling. Team support 'There's a real buzz of support from the team. It's also the first time in my life I've had a regular paycheck, which gives me a sense of stability. I haven't really thought about it much, but I guess it's helped me play with a little more freedom.' With the Montgomerie's greens rolling at just over 11.5 on the Stimp Meter and the course in pristine condition, low scores were needed to contend. Porteous delivered, showing the form that saw him win the 2013 Amateur Championship and cruise to a five-shot victory at the 2017 Prague Golf Challenge. 'The Emirates PGA events are really well-run, and Kieran Pratt does a fantastic job organizing them,' Porteous added. 'They fit perfectly into most players' schedules. Getting a scorecard in your hand and competing is a different challenge from just playing a casual round with mates.' Eye on the future As he looks ahead to the upcoming HotelPlanner Tour events, Porteous continues to blend his love for golf with his professional career. His background in graphic design and branding has found a natural home at ProSports, where he stays connected to the sport in more ways than one. 'My days look a little different now, but the hunger to compete is still there,' he said. 'The best part is, I get to enjoy both worlds.' With his game in good shape and confidence high, Porteous is ready to defend his title in Abu Dhabi, determined to make another statement on the HotelPlanner circuit.
