The 31st SAG Awards are today. Here's what to know
The 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night should offer the final clue in an unusually unpredictable Oscar race. The other major awards — including the BAFTAs, the Producers Guild Awards, the Directors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes — have all had their say. But actors make up the largest piece of the film academy pie, so their picks often correspond strongly with Academy Award winners.

Bafta winner pays tribute to sex workers in powerful acceptance speech
Mikey Madison has paid tribute to sex workers during her acceptance speech for Best Actress at the 2025 Bafta Awards. The 25-year-old is the star of Anora, where she plays a stripper in New York City, who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch. However, their relationship soon turns sour after his parents learn of the relationship. Madison was considered a surprise winner on the night, triumphing over Cynthia Arivo, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Demi Moore, Saoirse Ronan and Karla Sofía Gascón. The Scream star admitted that she didn't expect to win and hadn't planned an acceptance speech, joking: 'I probably should've listened to my publicist when she told me to write a speech.' Madison also thanked her mother, saying 'she's driven me to so many auditions' and her fellow cast. After thanking her co-stars and director Sean Baker, Madison ended her speech by paying tribute to sex workers. She said: 'I just wanna say that I see you. You deserve respect and human decency. I will always be a friend and ally, and I urge others to do the same.' The film had already taken top honours at both the Producers Guild Awards and the Directors Guild Awards on Saturday night, catapulting it to Oscar favourite status with wins from a pair of closely watched Academy Awards precursors. However, Conclave claimed the Best Film award at the Baftas having also bagged the award for Outstanding British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing. Other big winners on the night included The Brutalist, which won four awards including Best Actor and Best Director for Adrien Brody and Brady Corbet respectively. Best Supporting Actress went to Zoe Saldaña for her role in Emilia Pérez, while Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain.

Karla Sofía Gascón Not Expected at BAFTAs as ‘Emilia Pérez' Co-Stars Set to Attend
Embattled 'Emilia Pérez' star Karla Sofía Gascón is not expected to attend Sunday's BAFTA awards ceremony despite being nominated for Best Actress. The actress, who has been under fire for past racist tweets over the last month, is not among the list of confirmed attendees announced by BAFTA on Thursday. Her 'Emilia Pérez' co-stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña will be presenting at the ceremony. This is the latest awards ceremony that Gascón will skip after previously opting not to attend the AFI Awards luncheon, Critics Choice Awards or Producers Guild Awards. It's unclear if she plans to attend the Oscars, where she's nominated for Best Actress, in March. Controversial, racist tweets from the actress resurfaced in late January, and her inflammatory opinions on Islam being permitted in Europe, COVID vaccines, George Floyd as a 'hustler' and more have all put her awards campaign at risk. The actress began deleting the years-old tweets as they became public one by one before deactivating her social media account in full. 'The truth is, these have been very, very difficult days,' Gascón said in a surprise CNN apology in early February, which the actress appeared to set up personally as it was not a scheduled news hit through her team nor Netflix. 'Some people have told me not to even think about attending the Oscars gala because maybe I shouldn't.' In her initial apology through Netflix's PR team, she shared: 'I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt. As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.' The post Karla Sofía Gascón Not Expected at BAFTAs as 'Emilia Pérez' Co-Stars Set to Attend appeared first on TheWrap.

Los Angeles Times News Quiz this week: Super Bowl LIX on the field and on TV

Sure, you probably know by now (even if you didn't watch in real time) that the Philadelphia Eagles thwarted the Kansas City Chiefs' efforts at a history-making threepeat. But were you paying attention to where it happened? And what took place during the halftime show? If you're the 'I only watch it for the ads' kind of person, we've got something to test your recall on that front too — the big night's celebrity TV ads. As far as nonfootball topics from the last seven days, there's President Trump's new directive to the U.S. Treasury, the passing of a beloved counterculture author, the film that just won top awards from both the Producers Guild Awards and the Directors Guild Awards — on the same night, a Birmingham band's reunion 20 years in the making and the newest installment of the 'Jurassic Park' franchise. If those stories ring a bell, try your luck with this week's 10 handcrafted, California-leaning multiple-choice questions. (And if they don't, feel free to brush up on them before clicking through to take the quiz — nobody's looking.) Are you ready to have some fun? I am. Let's get started.

Taika Waititi Dispels Myths Of Indigenous Stories, Producing & More In His PGA Norman Lear Award Speech
Taika Waititi mixed jokes and sincerity in his acceptance speech for the Norman Lear Achievement Award on Saturday at the Producers Guild Awards for his work in television. He thanked his partners at FX and on the shows Reservation Dogs and What We Do in the Shadows. 'Thank you so much for believing in Indigenous stories and believing they could be more than just brown people standing on a mountain playing a flute talking to ancestors,' he said. In a moment of either humility or irreverence, Waititi admitted he does not know what he's doing. But, he is in good company. 'None of us do,' Waititi said. 'You don't. I've seen all your stuff. You don't know what you're doing. None of us do and that's what makes it fun. So continue to have fun because this isn't really a real job. One day they will find out and they'll come for us.' Waititi concluded by thanking his mother for exposing him to television in the first place, calling it 'My original babysitter. Probably my real mum. Think about it, the '80s, television raised me and it fed me on CHiPs and Benson and MASH. And now I get to create stories that do the same thing for a whole new generaiton of kids being ignored by their parents.'
