Tiger Woods Announces Mom's Passing In Emotional Post
Tiger Woods has announced the death of his mom, Kultida Woods, in a heartfelt post, where he praised her for the role she played in him becoming a great sportsman. Many friends and fans sent their condolences to the iconic golfer after the announcement. Kultida was most recently seen at Tiger's TGL match on January 14, where he shared a warm interaction with her. Her death comes 19 years after his father, Earl Woods, died in 2006 following a cancer battle. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tiger Woods (@tigerwoods) On Tuesday, Tiger announced his mom's death via a post on social media. He shared a statement that read, "It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my mom passed away early this morning." The 49-year-old described his mom as a "force of nature," adding that she possessed an "undeniable spirit." He added, "She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest support, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible." Tiger shared that his mom was "loved by so many," especially his two children, daughter Sam Alexis Woods and son Charlie Axel Woods, who he shares with ex-wife Elin Nordegren. He concluded, "Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you mom." Many of Tiger's associates and fans took turns expressing their sympathy after his mom's death. The Professional Golfers Association of America wrote, "Sending our condolences to the Woods family today." The United States Golf Association added, "We're so sorry for your loss, Tiger." Golf photographer Patrick Koenig eulogized Kultida, writing, "A mother that gave us all something special." Meanwhile, Tiger's friend, singer Justin Timberlake, NFL icon Tom Brady, and actor Mark Wahlberg commented with several red heart emojis. One fan wrote, "RIP to the mother who brought us the best golfer of all time and the reason I started golf as a kid. Heart goes out to the Woods family." US President Donald Trump, who awarded Tiger the Presidential Medal of Freedom in May 2019, also paid tribute to his mom. He did so via a post on Truth Social. Trump began, "I was just informed that Tiger Woods' wonderful Mother, Kultida, passed away — She has gone onto greener fairways!" The POTUS extolled Kultida's virtues, writing, "Kultida Woods was an amazing influence on Tiger, and gave him much of his strength and brilliance." He concluded, "Melania and I send our love and prayers to Tiger and his incredible family!" Trump accompanied his post with an old photo of a young Tiger posing with his mom and dad while holding a trophy. Tiger didn't reveal the cause of his mom's death in his announcement. Meanwhile, the PGA Tour revealed in a report about her passing that she was at his TGL match on January 14. According to the report, Tiger waved at Kultida during the match. He then smiled and said, "Hi, mom! Not gonna suck tonight." The sweet interaction typified Tiger's close bond with his mom, which he has spoken about in previous interviews. In 2017, the four-time PGA Championship winner told USA Today that he was more scared of his mom than his dad, even though the latter was in the Special Forces. He said, "My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him. My mom's still here and I'm still deathly afraid of her. She's a very tough, tough old lady, very demanding. ...I love her so much, but she was tough." Tiger Woods has many fond memories of his mom, including how she influenced him to wear red when playing on Sundays. He told TODAY in 2024, "My mom thought that being born a Capricorn, that red was my power color, and so in some of the junior golf events in SoCal, I would wear red and I won." Like many children do, Tiger tried to go against his mom's instructions but immediately regretted the decision. He shared, "In spite, I wore blue at other tournaments — just to spite, in spite. I didn't win, and so I then switched to red, and I had a lot more success wearing red."
