Judge denies bail for doctor accused of trying to kill wife
HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Maui doctor accused of trying to murder his wife will remain behind bars. A judge denied bail for Gerhardt Konig on May 13, despite a plea from his defense attorney to set bail at a reasonable amount. Konig has been charged with attempted murder and his attorney urged the court to set bail for his client at $100,000 to $200,000, saying Konig has no prior criminal record, has no access to his financial assets now that his wife filed for divorce and has no intention to flee. Saint Louis School robotics team wins gold at national championship 'Anything to do with whether he's a flight risk or a danger stems from the allegations in this case and of course, we all know he's presumed innocent of all that,' said Thomas Otake, Konig's attorney. Konig's defense team said the case is not as clear cut as it may seem. They argued he was a loving father, picked apart the state's evidence and said witnesses in the case saw very little of what happened along that trail. 'The point being this is going to be a he said-she said trial,' Otake prosecutors insist Konig is dangerous saying he called his son to tell him what he'd done and hid from police after the alleged attack. 'First he told his son he tried to kill Arielle, that he tried to kill the victim in this case. Second, he gave his son the reason for why. that she'd been cheating on him. And third, he told his son he was going to turn off his phone to avoid the police,' said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Joel Garner. Prosecutors say Konig tried three different ways to kill his wife on a Nuuanu trial back in March. First, pushing her off a cliff, beating her with a rock the size and weight of a softball then tried injecting her with a syringe. The defense says no syringes were recovered at the scene. 'I do think the fact that the defendant has easy access and uncontrolled access to these types of drugs is a very relevant factor in his dangerousness in the future,' Garner said. After hearing the arguments, the judge agreed with prosecutors that Konig is a danger to the community and denied setting bail. Konig now remains in custody at OCCC. His trial was scheduled to begin the week of June 9. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Kanye West to sue dentist over drug dependency
Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori, have announced their intention to sue dentist Dr Thomas Connelly. The rapper claims that Connelly's dental treatment led him to develop a dangerous chemical dependency on nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. The allegations paint a disturbing picture of medical misconduct, addiction, and betrayal of trust. Kanye's treatment with Dr Connelly began around 2024. The treatment was focused on cosmetic dental care, including the placement of a custom titanium crown. However, what was supposed to be routine care allegedly spiralled into a nightmare. According to the legal notice obtained by the Daily Mail , Connelly repeatedly administered excessive amounts of nitrous oxide to Kanye. The amount was far beyond what any legitimate dental procedure would require. Shockingly, the letter claims Connelly even supplied large 'surgical-size' tanks of nitrous oxide to Kanye's home. This enabled Kanye to self-administer the gas unsupervised, a practice that is highly dangerous and medically irresponsible. The dentist allegedly taught Kanye how to inhale the gas without any safeguards or medical oversight. There were clear signs of neurological damage and erratic behaviour-such as confusion, memory lapses, mood swings, and impaired motor function. However, Connelly allegedly continued to provide nitrous oxide. The legal team states he ignored 'red flags', including Kanye's obsessive discussions about the gas and frequent use of an inhaler mask. In a stunning admission, the dentist reportedly acknowledged in writing that his treatment was improper and that he made mistakes. Yet, he failed to take corrective action or ensure Kanye received proper follow-up care or detoxification support. The lawsuit also accuses Connelly of administering other controlled substances like Propofol outside of medical settings. He once used it at a hotel in Las Vegas, with devastating effects on Kanye's mental and physical health. The dentist is further accused of abruptly abandoning Kanye's care just as the consequences of his actions became evident. The impact on Kanye's life has been severe. The letter details lasting nerve damage, psychological trauma, and a worsening of his mental health. This includes increased anxiety and depression. Bianca Censori has also suffered emotionally, forced to witness her husband's decline and take on the burden of caring for him. For South Africans, Kanye's story serves as a stark warning about the dangers of medical malpractice and the importance of safeguarding mental health. It also highlights the risks of drug dependency, even from substances often considered 'safe' in controlled settings. With South Africa facing its challenges around substance abuse and healthcare quality, this case resonates deeply. While Kanye himself has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, his legal team's letter speaks volumes. 'The betrayal of trust by a healthcare provider has caused him immense anguish.' Bianca added, 'Witnessing Ye's physical and mental distress has been a heartbreaking ordeal.' This unfolding saga is a tragic example of how even the most successful and powerful can fall victim to medical negligence and addiction.
