Spain 'need to travel' alert issued for popular resort
An 'intense' warning has been issued
An "intense" travel warning has been issued for one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations. Every year, countless UK holidaymakers flock to Spain, with the upcoming summer tipped to be very busy for international travel.
Before jetting off abroad, it is important to be well-informed, especially of any potential safety or security concerns. The General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies in Spain sounded the alarm on Friday morning for a resort favoured by UK tourists.
On X, formerly Twitter, Spain's Protección Civil said: "There is an alert for intense weather today in Alicante". Important advice was then issue for anyone with a "need to travel", as you should "preferably use motorways and dual carriageways, do not cross flooded sections on foot or by vehicle, and stay away from rivers, streams and low areas".
The announcement follows several regions in Spain being battered by torrential rain, hail, and thunderstorms earlier in May, prompting "major danger" alerts then. However, the Met Office forecasts that Alicante will see a return to hot and sunny conditions from tomorrow, Saturday, May 24.
Anyone lucky enough to be in Alicante over the coming week can expect to bask in temperatures of up to 30C Meanwhile, Malaga, another hot spot for Brits, could witness mercury levels soaring up to 33C, with maximum highs of 24C in Barcelona.
