CM Maryam, MPAs discuss welfare projects
LAHORE: 'Together, we have to make Punjab a model province, serving the people is our mission,' said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in a meeting with MPAs Muhammad Ahmed Khan Leghari and Naeem Akhtar Khan Bhabha to discuss progress of ongoing welfare projects, solutions to public problems and development issues of their respective constituencies. She added, 'Education and financial independence of youth are my top priorities.' She highlighted, 'We want to bring benefits of development to every section of the province.' The visiting Members of the Provincial Assembly appreciated Madam Chief Minister's ongoing development and welfare projects in the province. They acknowledged, 'Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has won hearts of people in a short span of time through her transparent governance and revolutionary initiatives.' They added, 'Kisan Card, Minority Card, Ration Card, Humat Card and Education Card are the best measures for equal participation of all in development.' They noted, 'Madam Chief Minister has also won hearts of students with Honahar scholarships, laptops and e-bikes schemes.' MPA Naeem Akhtar Khan Bhabha thanked Madam Chief Minister for starting the construction and expansion project of Multan-Vehari Road. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to start classes at Vehari Girls College on the request of Naeem Bhabha, and tasked the Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to start these classes after the summer break. Remove Ads The Cabinet in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has approved a resolution, calling on the federal government to review its Aghan policy and allow the provincial authorities to hold direct talks with the neighbouring country to ensure lasting peace in the region.A meeting of the provincial Cabinet with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in the chair on Friday approved the resolution stated that "Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should be empowered to play an effective role in resolving all outstanding issues through direct and meaningful dialogue with Afghanistan so that lasting peace and stability in the region can be ensured."The resolution further recommended the provincial government urge the federal government to reconsider and immediately revise its current policy regarding resolution further stated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been a victim of terrorism for several people of the province are still yearning to be freed from this menace, the resolution said, adding that the ongoing incidents of terrorism continued to pose a constant threat to the lives and property of the policy of the Government of Pakistan concerning Afghanistan has proven to be ineffective, it of curbing terrorism, it has led to its escalation and has also strained the relations between the two countries and their has further complicated the situation by promoting mutual hatred, affecting trade, and deteriorating law and order."It says that "in this context, immediate and concrete measures have become essential to restore trust between the two brotherly nations and to establish lasting peace in the region."The resolution was recently passed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Provincial Assembly.

CM urges elected representatives to lead polio-eradication drive
KARACHI: In a compelling and urgent appeal, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has called upon all elected representatives, including Members of the National Assembly, Provincial Assembly, and local government representatives, to take active ownership of the polio eradication campaign and spearhead efforts to protect future generations from this crippling yet preventable disease. Addressing lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches in a detailed letter, the Chief Minister emphasised the urgent need for unified and intensified action ahead of the upcoming National Immunisation Day, scheduled for May 26, 2025. 'Polio eradication is not merely a health priority; it is a moral imperative,' the letter underscored. 'The future of our children and the well-being of our communities depend on our collective resolve to rid our land of this crippling disease once and for all.' Shah highlighted that Pakistan remains one of only two countries worldwide where wild poliovirus continues to be endemic. Alarmingly, 74 cases of wild poliovirus were reported nationwide in 2024, a significant increase compared to previous years. Sindh province, particularly Karachi and its northern districts, accounted for a substantial portion of these cases. Despite ongoing immunisation campaigns, persistent challenges remain. Many children are still missing vaccinations due to parental refusals, limited access in remote or underserved areas, and unregistered births. The CM urged elected representatives to lead community engagement efforts, raise awareness, and support comprehensive health initiatives to overcome these obstacles. Major actions outlined by Murad Ali Shah included ensuring complete and accurate birth registrations to identify all eligible children, enforce rigorous routine immunisation schedules at all levels, addressing parental refusals through targeted community engagement and education, reaching missed children through innovative outreach methods, including mobile teams and local volunteers, and striving for 100 per cent immunisation coverage during every vaccination drive. The letter also highlighted the upcoming Sub-National Immunisation Day in July, calling for sustained momentum and vigilance in the fight against polio. 'This is a moment for unity and leadership,' the Chief Minister said adding, 'Together, we can make history by eradicating polio from Pakistan once and for all.'

KP cabinet condemns Indian aggression
PESHAWAR: In the backdrop of Indian unprovoked aggression against Pakistan, an emergency meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet was held here on Wednesday with Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur in the chair. The cabinet strongly condemned India's aggression against Pakistan, expressing serious concern over the hostile actions and calling them unacceptable. The cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to make every sacrifice necessary for the defence of the nation, and assured the security forces of complete support in responding to any threats in a befitting manner. It was briefed on the current escalation between Pakistan and India, the province's preparedness to handle any emergency situation, and the precautionary measures in place. It condemned India's targeting of civilian areas under the cover of darkness, calling it a cowardly and disgraceful act, and a grave violation of international law urging the international community to take notice of it. Speaking at the session, Chief Minister Gandapur sent a clear message to India: 'We are always ready to defend our homeland. We firmly believe in the prophecy of Ghazwa-e-Hind, in which Muslims will emerge victorious. It will be our honour to be part of that battle.' He expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Punjab affected by Indian aggression, assuring them of all possible support. 'We are united in the defence of our homeland adding that 250 million people of Pakistan stand as its army. Gandapur criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aggressive policies, saying they pose a threat not only to regional peace but also to his own people, as well. The Chief Minister warned that India's fascist approach threatens regional stability and should not mistake Pakistan's desire for peace as weakness. He concluded by emphasizing that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are prepared to make any sacrifice for the nation's defence. 'We are ready to give our lives for the soil of our country.' The meeting was attended by Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, Opposition Leader Ibadullah Khan, cabinet members, the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Additional Chief Secretary, and other administrative secretaries. During the meeting, prayers were offered for the martyrs as a result of Indian aggression, speedy recovery for the injured, and the safety and security of the country. K-P, Balochistan slam Indian aggression
In a decisive move reflecting national solidarity, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) cabinet and Balochistan Assembly on Wednesday convened emergency sessions to condemn India's recent unprovoked aggression, pledging full support to Pakistan's armed forces and calling for unity in national defense strategies. The high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, included the Speaker and Leader of the Opposition of the Provincial Assembly, top bureaucrats, and district officials via video link. The session opened with a solemn prayer for the martyrs and civilians affected by the attack. Addressing the media, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information, Barrister Dr Muhammad Ali Saif, said the cabinet strongly condemned the Indian incursion, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation. "The cowardly targeting of civilians under the cover of night reveals India's aggressive mindset," he stated. Reiterating full loyalty to the nation's defense, the cabinet pledged unflinching support to Pakistan's armed forces, declaring, "We stand united and prepared to defend every inch of our homeland." Chief Minister Gandapur drew on religious and historical symbolism, stating, "Martyrdom is an honor for us. We believe in the prophecy of Ghazwa-e-Hindour faith gives us strength in this struggle for justice and dignity." Notably, the cabinet urged the federal government to release PTI founder Imran Khan and involve him in national security deliberations. "National unity demands the presence of every popular leader at the decision-making table," said Barrister Saif, emphasizing Khan's longstanding stance against external aggression. The cabinet also expressed deep solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir and affected regions along the Punjab border, offering all necessary support for relief and rehabilitation. In a scathing indictment of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies, the cabinet warned of dire consequences for regional peace. "India must not misinterpret our calls for peace as weakness. We are prepared to respond with strength and more," the official statement read. In parallel, the Balochistan Assembly also passed a unanimous resolution condemning India's actions. Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti termed the aggression "an act of war" and hailed Pakistan's air force for its robust response, claiming that Indian troops had resorted to raising white flags along the Line of Control to avoid further confrontation.
