Man charged after teen girl alleged raped in Edinburgh
The 20-year-old is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in due course. A 20-year-old man has been charged after a teenage girl was allegedly raped in Edinburgh city centre. The 15-year-old is said to have been targeted at a bus stop on Princes Street just before 5am on Sunday, May 25, before being led on foot to nearby York Place. The shocking assault then took place in a basement storage area before the suspect fled on foot. Police said the man had been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged serious sexual assault. He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in due course. "Despite the early morning there was daylight in this busy commercial area. I am asking people who were within the area at the time and could have seen the suspect alone or with the victim, to come forward. Chief Inspector Brian Manchester, Local Area Commander, said: "We understand an incident such as this is concerning for the local community, and we have a dedicated enquiry team working on this investigation."

Cops began conducting door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the New Town area. At the time, the force said the suspect was wearing a balaclava and fled the scene in the direction of Dublin Street. Police have now confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged serious sexual offence. They added that enquiries are still ongoing. Police Scotland released a statement which read: " A 20-year-old man has been arrested following a report of a serious sexual offence of a 15-year-old girl in Edinburgh. "The incident took place in the York Place area on Sunday, 25 May, 2025. Enquiries are ongoing." Detective Inspector Mhairi Cooper from the Public Protection Unit in Edinburgh previously urged anyone with any information to come forward. 'Despite the early morning, there was daylight in this busy commercial area. "I am asking people who were within the area at the time and could have seen the suspect alone or with the victim, to come forward. Detectives appeal for information after teenager sexually assaulted in York Place basement
Detectives are appealing for information after a teenage girl was the victim of a serious sexual assault in Edinburgh city centre. The incident took place on Sunday morning, 25 May 2025 in a basement storage area on York Place. The 15-year-old girl was approached by a man in a bus stop by Marks and Spencer on Princes Street around 5am. He then took her on foot to York Place. After the assault the suspect left the area in the direction of Dublin Street. The suspect is described as a white man with blond stubble/beard who spoke with a Scottish accent. He was wearing a black zip up hooded top, khaki green trousers, and Nike trainers. He wore a black balaclava. Girl, 15, raped by masked man in city centre
Police are hunting for a masked man after a teenage girl was raped in a basement area in Edinburgh City Centre. The 15-year-old was approached by the man wearing a balaclava at a bus stop by Marks and Spencer on Princes Street at around 5am on Sunday. He then led her on foot to York Place. The suspect then raped the girl in a basement area in the street before leaving in the direction of Dublin Street. He is described as a white man with blond stubble/beard who spoke with a Scottish accent. He was wearing a black zip up hooded top, khaki green trousers, and Nike trainers and was wearing a black balaclava at the time of the attack. A dedicated police unit is now carrying out door to door enquiries and checking all relevant CCTV footage in an effort to catch the perpetrator.
