Two killed, four hurt in cracker unit blast, Stalin announces solatium
Chennai, June 11 (UNI) Two workers were killed and four others sustained injuries in a blast at a private cracker manufacturing unit at Vadagarai village in the southern Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Reports received here said the deceased included a woman. The blast occurred at around 0900 hrs due to friction when the workers were handling chemicals. The deceased were identified as Ms Goundammal (54) and Karuppiah (37), who were charred to death on the spot. Four others--Ganesan (55), Murugan (40), Ms Mariammal (40) and Ms Pechiammal (38)--who sustained injuries and burns were admitted to Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital. Meanwhile, expressing deep anguish and grief over the incident, Chief Minister MK Stalin directed the hospital authorities to provide the best of treatment to those injured and announced solatium of Rs four lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also announced an assistance of Rs on lakh each to those who sustained serious injuries and Rs 50,000 to those who received simple injuries from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, an official release said. Man drowns while saving two students; T.N. CM Stalin condoles death
A man drowned while saving two students near a checkdam in Kanniyakumari district. Peter Johnson was in a bathing ghat in Kuzhithurai checkdam in Vilavancode taluk around 11.30 a.m. on June 1 when he noticed the two boys, Mano and Akilesh, slipping into the water. He helped save their lives but drowned. Terming his death an irreparable loss, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a solatium of Rs. 10 lakh from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami condoled the death and hailed the heroic act. 'Though Peter has died, he would continue to live in the two students he saved,' the AIADMK leader said.

Sivaganga quarry accident: Death toll rises to six
Sivaganga: The death toll in Tuesday's accident at a private stone quarry at Mallakottai in Sivaganga rose to six as K Michael, 47, of Tuticorin succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Madurai on Thursday. Michael was among six workers who were working at the 'Mega Blue Metals' stone quarry when a sudden rockslide trapped them in debris. Michael was the first to be rescued and rushed to a hospital. However, he did not respond to treatment and died in the early hours of Thursday. Meanwhile, cooperation minister K R Periyakaruppan on Thursday handed over a relief of 10.5 lakh to the family of a deceased worker, Harshit, from Odisha. He ensured arrangements were made for a private ambulance to take Harshit's body to Odisha. Later in Madurai, he handed over relief of 7.5 lakh to Michael's family members and assured them the rest 3 lakh from CM's Public Relief Fund will be released soon.

Toll in cracker blast rises to four, Stalin announces solatium
Chennai, Apr 26 (UNI) The toll in Friday night's cracker blast at Omalur in Salem district rose to four with the death of one more person, even as Chief Minister M K Stalin announced a solatium of Rs three lakh each to their family members. An official release said three people Selvaraj (29), Tamilselvan and Karthi (both aged 11) were killed on the spot. On Saturday, one more person, identified as Lokesh (20), who had sustained serious injuries, succumbed to burns at the at the Salem Government Medical College hospital. Mr Stalin expressed deep anguish and grief over their deaths and announced the relief from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund and also offered his condolences to their families. The crackers, stacked in a gunny sack, were being taken to a temple festival in a two-wheeler when the tragedy occurred. The victims were crossing a garbage dump which was burning when a spark from it triggered the explosion, in which three people were charred to death on the spot and one more succumbing to injuries today. SALEM: Four persons, including two boys, were killed in an accidental firecracker blast near a temple at Kanjanaickenpatti village in the district on Friday night, police said. Expressing his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each to the affected families. A bundle of firecrackers being carried in a gunny bag on a two-wheeler, to be burst during the festival at the Draupadi Amman temple, caught fire and exploded at around 8:50 PM on Friday near the Poosaripatti bus stand, Kanjanaickenpatti village, police said. "The incident happened when a man attempted to test the firecrackers," a police official said, and added that the mishap occurred about one km away from the temple where a large number of people had gathered for the festival. The deceased have been identified as Selvaraj (29) from Kottamedu, Kanjanaickenpatti, and two boys from Guruvalliyur aged 11, while Lokesh (20) died at the Salem Government Medical College Hospital. "I was deeply shocked and pained to hear the tragic news. I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families who lost their kin," the chief minister said in a statement announcing a relief of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said: "The news that four people have tragically lost their lives in a firecracker accident during a temple festival in Kanjanaickenpatti village is very shocking and painful. I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased. "Such accidents have become a recurring story under the present DMK regime because proper protocols were not followed during temple festivals and proper security was not provided," he alleged in a post on the social media platform 'X'. Palaniswami urged the state government to enhance the relief sum and also take appropriate measures to ensure safety protocols were in place so that such accidents do not happen again.
