The MT Yi Cheng 6, flagged under Pulau and carrying 14 Indian crew members, was en route from Kandla in Gujarat to Shinas, Oman, when the incident occurred. In response to the distress call, INS Tabar swiftly deployed a team comprising 13 Indian naval personnel and five crew members to assist in firefighting efforts. The Indian Navy confirmed the operation in a statement posted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Earlier this month, the service conducted a coordinated Search And Rescue operation with the Coast Guard after a fire was reported onboard the Singaporean-flagged MV Wan Hai 503. The Navy and Coast Guard managed to safely rescue 18 out of 22 crew members onboard. The MV had reported an internal container explosion and a resultant major fire onboard.
