Man Spit on ICE Agent While Being Detained for Reentering US After Being Deported: US Attorney

A 41-year-old man living in Los Angeles has been charged with assaulting a federal officer after allegedly spitting on an ICE agent while being arrested for reentering the U.S. illegally, federal prosecutors said. Omar Pulido Bastida, a Mexican national previously deported from the United States, had already been charged earlier this year with illegal reentry, according to the United States Attorney's Office . The man was living in the Historic South Central neighborhood of Los Angeles at the time of the incident. On Tuesday morning, ICE agents arrived at Pulido's home with a warrant tied to the illegal reentry case. After identifying himself from the second-story balcony, Pulido reportedly insulted the officer. When he later opened the front door, separated by an iron security gate, he told the agent, "I know my rights. I'm calling my lawyer," and then allegedly spit through the gate, hitting the officer in the face. ICE agents entered the home shortly after and found Pulido hiding in a second-floor storage room. He surrendered and was taken into custody. A federal magistrate ordered him detained, with arraignment scheduled for July 16 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. Pulido now faces one felony count of assaulting a federal employee, which carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison. The investigation is ongoing, and the case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office's Domestic Security and Immigration Crimes Section. Originally published on Latin Times

Journalist questions Real Madrid's decision to renew superstar's contract – ‘They are wrong'

Real Madrid's are on track to tie down Vinicius Jr. with a long-term contract, but that has not gone down well with everyone in Spain. Prominent Spanish journalist Julio Pulido has publicly questioned the club's judgement, sparking debate over whether the Brazilian should remain the focal point of Madrid's future, especially with Kylian Mbappe's on the roster. Advertisement Speaking on Cadena SER (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Pulido expressed his support for Vinicius's personal decision to reject a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia. 'I think Vinicius is right,' he began, acknowledging that it would have been premature and unwise for the 24-year-old to leave Europe at this stage in his career. 'It would be a mistake to go to Saudi Arabia at his age and at the current moment.' Against Real Madrid However, Pulido was far less forgiving when analysing Real Madrid's motives. 'They are wrong because the Real Madrid of the future doesn't revolve around Vinicius.' He argued that Vinicius is no longer the untouchable star he once was and pointed out a worrying trend in his recent behaviour and on-pitch performances. Advertisement 'It's not about this Vinicius who gets angry, who gets irritated, and who is increasingly less important on the pitch,' Pulido said, casting doubt over the Brazilian's temperament and diminishing influence. He then shifted focus to Real Madrid's marquee signing: 'This is where Mbappe's figure emerges.' For Pulido, the future of the club rests squarely on the shoulders of the French superstar. With Jude Bellingham also flourishing and Mbappe the central figure in Madrid's attack, questions naturally arise over where Vinicius fits into the evolving hierarchy at the Bernabeu. With the team now evolving and new stars entering the fray, the debate continues—should Real Madrid build around Vinicius, or should they place the crown on Mbappe instead?

2 members of Mongols Motorcycle Club arrested for deadly fight at Ontario bar in March

Two members of the Mongols Motorcycle Club were arrested in connection with a deadly fight that happened at a bar in San Bernardino County in early March, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The incident happened at a bar in Ontario back on March 6, when prosecutors say that two members of the Southern California-based club "violently attacked" the victim, who was a member of the Vagos Motorcycle Club, a rival group. They have been identified as 51-year-old Montclair man Clifford Michael Lavoy, also known as "Buckshot" and 35-year-old Upland man Julian Pulido, also known as "Juls." "Inside the bar, the defendants confronted the victim, who was wearing clothing reflecting his Vagos membership, argued with him, and told the victim that he needed to show respect to them as Mongols members," prosecutors said. Following that confrontation, the pair "assaulted and overpowered" the victim by punching and choking him, causing injuries to the face, head and neck. When he tried to run, Pulido allegedly drew a gun and fired several times, striking the victim in the back. He fell through the bar door and onto the sidewalk where he died, prosecutors said. He was declared dead at 2:45 a.m. The DOJ statement says that Pulido was located by authorities later that same day, but he led them on a nine-hour chase that spanned across five Southern California counties. The pursuit only came to an end when he crashed a black Dodge vehicle into a ditch at high speeds while driving along Highway 46 in the Lost Hills community of Kern County. When he was finally arrested, prosecutors say he was in possession of the same Mongols-branded clothing that he was wearing the night of the victim's murder. Lavoy was also arrested in Whittier but he was released sometime after he was booked, the DOJ statement said. Authorities took him into custody again on Wednesday, April 16. He was booked on a federal criminal complaint that charges him with assault resulting in serious bodily injury in aid of racketeering. He made his first court appearance the same day and was ordered jailed without bond at least until a scheduled arraignment hearing on May 6. He faces a statutory maximum sentence of 20 yeas behind bars. Pulido was charged with the same federal complaint with murder in the aid of racketeering, prosecutors noted. He has been charged with murder and is expected to make his first court appearance in coming weeks in Riverside federal court. If convicted of all charges, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of life in federal prison.
