CM wants PERA to become fully functional by Sept 30

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz presided over a meeting in Lahore on Tuesday regarding different operations of Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) in Lahore. A comprehensive and detailed briefing was given to the participants of the meeting about Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed relevant officials to take all measures to make PERA fully functional across the province till September 30, 2025. Under the PERA, different enforcement stations will be established across the province. PERA will take effective measures for price control, removal of encroachments and other relevant matters. It was informed that PERA will be fully functional in Lahore Division by May 2025 and it will be fully functional in all divisional headquarters of the province till August 14, 2025. As many as 159 officials and other staff completed initial training about PERA. It was decided during the meeting that a training wing will be established under Pakistan Enforcement and Regulatory Authority. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the authorities concerned to ensure effective surveillance of mineral resources in the province and prepare an easy and feasible plan for local and foreign investors. She was chairing a meeting of the mines and minerals department in which a proposal to set up a special economic zone for value-added products made from rock salt was reviewed. The chief minister sought a comprehensive business plan related to a gold and iron project. The meeting reviewed prospects regarding declaration of a special economic zone in Quaidabad as tax-free for 10 years. Basic infrastructure will be provided in the zone. The chief minister was informed in a briefing that priority will be given to exporting pink salt in the shape of value-added products instead of raw material. An estimate of 261 million tonnes of iron ore reserves in Chiniot has been made. She was informed that 33,000 kilograms of gold can be obtained from the Pulsar Gold Project, for which the Environment Protection Agency has given approval. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated in her Earth Day message, "The earth is not only ours, but also a trust of the future generations. To protect earth, we have to save its natural resources and trees." She highlighted, "To make the earth safe, we have to combat the challenges of pollution and climate change." The chief minister said, "The Punjab government is at the forefront of a mission to protect the natural habitat. We have made environmental protection a central part of our policy. Millions of trees have been planted under the Green Punjab campaign to protect the earth." Enforcement authority Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced while presiding over a meeting that the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) would be made functional in Lahore next month and in all divisional headquarters of the province by August 14.

The district administration has approved the registration of all wedding halls and marquees across all six districts of the division as well as the imposition of a 5% tax on property dealers. The applications for setting up nine new petrol pumps were also approved. A meeting of the revenue department was held at the Deputy Commissioner's Office Rawalpindi, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Hassan Tariq, where various matters were discussed. Officers from relevant departments participated in the meeting. It was decided that all wedding halls would be fully registered with the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) to address legal and environmental issues. Steps will be taken to resolve tax-related issues concerning wedding halls. During the meeting, it was also decided that tour operators and property dealers would be registered with the PERA to ensure transparency in these sectors. The meeting also decided to set a 5% tax rate for property dealers, which is expected to increase revenue. In another meeting, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Hassan Tariq, the district petrol pump committee reviewed the No Objection Certificate (NOC) cases for petrol pumps across the district. A total of 17 cases were presented, of which eight were granted NOCs after completing all formalities. For the remaining nine cases, concerns were addressed and cases were instructed to be resubmitted. The ADCG instructed that these cases should be resubmitted with the recommendations of the ACs of the relevant tehsils for further review.
