Multi-million winning ‘Bonus Bucks' ticket claimed by Massachusetts trust

DORCHESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – A winning lottery ticket sold in Woburn has been claimed by a trust in the Massachusetts State Lottery's '$4,000,000 Bonus Bucks' instant ticket game. Springfield lottery winner plans to use winnings for home repairs The Massachusetts State Lottery states that the Pyrrhic Funding Trust of Chelmsford, represented by trustee Susan Atlas, has claimed a $4 million prize in the Bonus Bucks game. The trust chose to receive the prize in the form of a one-time payment of $2,600,000 before taxes. The ticket was purchased at Gulf on Montvale Ave in Woburn, which will receive a $40,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket. In Massachusetts, when a large lottery prize is won, it is required to be identified to the public when you claim the winnings. However, an increasingly popular choice to get around this is to claim the winnings through a trust. A trust is allowed to accept the winnings because the trust is the legal titleholder of the property, the lottery ticket in this case. Lottery winners can hire a trust to claim the prize for them and keep their identity a secret. However, this does come at a cost. Costs will vary depending on which lawyer you go through.
