QICDRC showcases innovation at London Disputes Week 2025
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has concluded its participation in London International Disputes Week 2025 (LIDW25), held from 2 to 6 June in the United Kingdom under the theme 'Innovation in dispute resolution: navigating global risks.' QICDRC participated in four key sessions, where its speakers explored how innovation is shaping the future of dispute resolution in the face of global challenges. In the session titled 'The Rise of International Commercial Courts: What It Means for the Rule of Law, English Lawyers, and the Standing of English Law Worldwide,' the President of the Court, The Rt Hon. the Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, discussed the increasing role of international commercial courts in resolving cross-border disputes and the opportunities this presents for enhancing the global standing of English law and legal professionals. The session also highlighted the significant role of the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts (SIFoCC) in promoting best practices and judicial cooperation across jurisdictions. Lord Thomas also participated in the session 'How Are Courts Around the World Innovating?' which addressed the use of technology to enhance court users' experiences, including the ability to file claims fully online. The discussion also emphasised the importance of transparency, citing QICDRC's practices of live-streaming hearings and publishing judgments on its website as examples of strengthening public trust in the judiciary. QICDRC also took part in a session focusing on 'International Commercial Courts of the Gulf - their Chief Justices consider the challenges and opportunities ahead' where Court representatives shared the QICDRC experience and the unique services it offers. These include bilingual services, an electronic court platform, and the application of select English common law principles in line with international best practice. In the session titled 'Global Perspectives on Enforcement of Judgments and Arbitral Awards: Insights from the MENA Region,' QICDRC led a discussion on the procedures and challenges related to the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards, particularly across the MENA region, offering insights into how legal systems can respond to enforcement-related complexities while upholding the integrity of justice. Reflecting on the Court's participation at LIDW25, Faisal Rashid Al Sahouti, CEO of QICDRC, said: 'LIDW25 offered a valuable opportunity to engage with peers from across jurisdictions and explore innovative approaches to dispute resolution. QICDRC introduces new rules to enhance access to justice
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has announced the entry into force of an updated set of Rules and Procedures applicable before both the QFC Civil and Commercial Court and the QFC Regulatory Tribunal. The new framework was approved by the Council of Ministers, issued by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and officially published in the Official Gazette on 4 June 2025. This step forms part of QICDRC's wider institutional vision to modernise judicial processes, enhance procedural efficiency, and reinforce guarantees of timely access to justice. The reforms are designed in line with international best practices in dispute resolution and reflect the State of Qatar's broader efforts to foster a transparent, responsive, and trusted legal environment in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. The updated Rules introduce a number of substantive amendments. These include the adoption of the National Address system as a legally binding method for serving documents and submitting legal filings, thereby improving procedural certainty and expediting the resolution of disputes. Jurisdictional provisions have been clarified to reflect recent amendments to the QFC Law, providing greater accuracy in outlining the respective competences of the Civil and Commercial Court and the Regulatory Tribunal. A default judgment mechanism has been introduced, allowing the Court to proceed fairly and efficiently in matters where a party fails to appear, while fully upholding the right to a fair trial. In addition, Practice Direction No. 1 of 2025 has been issued to provide detailed procedural guidance regarding the appeal process, ensuring clarity and a balance between efficiency and legal safeguards. Commenting on the updated framework, Faisal Al-Sahouti, CEO of QICDRC, stated: 'This marks a major step forward in modernising the Court's operations and demonstrates our firm commitment to providing a judicial experience that is accessible, efficient, and rooted in the rule of law. The reforms are a direct response to the evolving nature of commercial disputes and the need for both precision and flexibility in procedure.' He added: 'These changes are part of our strategic vision to accelerate digital transformation, enhance the Court's infrastructure, and expand access to advanced judicial services—ensuring that QICDRC remains a trusted regional and international hub for dispute resolution.' QICDRC affirms that the implementation of the new framework reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening judicial quality, building confidence in the QFC legal system, and supporting national objectives related to sustainable development and the rule of law. Qatar International Court hosts legal seminar on addressing civil fraud in commercial transactions
DOHA: The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has hosted a seminar titled Untangling Civil Fraud in Commercial Transactions, addressing the critical issue of misrepresentations and non-disclosures in commercial transactions, highlighting how such practices can lead to significant financial losses and civil and/or criminal fraud. Held in collaboration with LexisNexis Middle East and in partnership with Five Pillars Law Firm, the seminar's panel featured distinguished speakers who explored key pressure points within commercial transactions where the risk of misrepresentation is greatest and provided insights into how such risks may be mitigated. Commenting on the seminar, Registrar of QICDRC, Umar Azmeh, who moderated the session, stated: "WithآQatar's dynamic economic expansion, ensuring transparency and integrity in transactions is more important than ever. Today's discussion highlighted both the challenges and proactive strategies needed to support sustainable commercial practices."
