Arabi beat Salmiya to set Amir Cup final date with Kuwait
Arabi beat Salmiya to set Amir Cup final date with Kuwait KUWAIT: Al-Arabi beat Salmiya 1-0 to qualify for the Amir Cup final, where they will be facing Kuwait in an epic showdown on June 16th. Al-Arabi's win came Friday at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium, where it dominated throughout the first half with many attempts on the goal. Al-Arabi's pressure almost resulted in a goal before the half time whistle, but the referee used the VAR technology to rule out a goal due to a foul committed on Salmiya's defense before the ball hit the back of the net. In the second half, Al-Arabi's Kamil Al-Aswad managed to open the scoring in the 52nd minute, and the advantage continued for his team as the defense managed to block Salmiya's attacks until the final whistle. Kuwait SC qualified for the final match after beating Qadsia 1-0 in the other semi-final match held earlier in the day. — KUNA

Kuwait Club completes double
KUWAIT CITY, May 31: Kuwait Club clinched the Basketball Cup for the 17th time in its history after a dominant 126-92 victory over defending champion Qadsia in the final at the Basketball Association Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. Kazma secured third place with a 113-96 win over Sulaibikhat in the consolation match. With this triumph, the "Whites" completed a remarkable domestic double, having also won the league title, further cementing their recent dominance across local basketball competitions. Historically, Qadsia holds the record for the most Basketball Cup titles with 26, followed by Kuwait Club (17), Al-Arabi (9), Kazma (3), Al-Jahra (2), and Al-Sahel and Al-Nasr with one title each. The final was attended by the President of the Basketball Association, Dhari Barjas, members of the Association's Board of Directors, presidents and officials from both Kuwait and Qadsia Clubs, and the President of the Qatar Basketball Association, Mohammed Al-Mughaseeb, who took part in crowning the Kuwait Club with the trophy. Kuwait Club and Burgan clash again in Volleyball Federation Cup quarterfinals
KUWAIT CITY, May 15: Kuwait Club and Burgan will meet for the third time in just one week when they face off today at 5:00 pm in the Federation Cup quarterfinals. The match will be held at the Federation Hall at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. Later, at 7:00 pm, Qadsia will take on Al-Arabi in another high-stakes quarterfinal at the same venue. The two sides previously met on May 9 in the Premier League playoff final, where Kuwait Club secured a dominant 3-0 victory. They repeated the same scoreline on May 13 to clinch their 16th Premier League title in club history. The Federation Cup quarterfinals began yesterday with two matches: Al-Shabab vs. Al-Nasr and Kazma vs. Al-Sulaibikhat. Winners from both match days will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for Sunday. The tournament—and the 2024-2025 volleyball season—will conclude on May 20. Kuwait Club is aiming to complete a treble this season, having already won the Super Cup and Premier League. Burgan, however, is determined to upset the "Sons of Kaifan" and deny them a third title while securing a place in the semifinals. The second quarterfinal between Al-Arabi and Qadsia is equally significant. Al-Arabi, Super Cup runner-up and third-place finisher in the league, is hunting for its first title of the season. Qadsia, meanwhile, is looking to rescue a trophy-less campaign with a strong showing in the Federation Cup. In a separate development, the Kuwait Volleyball Association announced a one-year suspension and a KD 1,500 fine for a Burgan player involved in incidents during the recent Premier League final against Kuwait Club.

Kuwait Club and Al-Arabi set for epic finale in Zain Premier League
KUWAIT CITY, May 10: The curtain falls tonight on the 63rd edition of the Zain Premier League, with Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium set to host the highly anticipated title-deciding clash between Kuwait Club and Al-Arabi at 8:20 pm in the final round of the championship group. Earlier in the evening, Qadsia will face Al-Fahaheel at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium, and Salmiya will take on Al-Tadamon at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium. Both matches kick off at 5:40 pm. While Qadsia has already secured third place with 38 points, Salmiya (33 points) and Al-Fahaheel (32 points) are in contention for fourth place—a position that guarantees a spot in the Super Cup and possibly a berth in a foreign tournament. Al-Tadamon sits at the bottom with 20 points. At the top of the table, Kuwait Club leads with 57 points, just ahead of Al-Arabi on 55 points. A draw or win will secure Kuwait Club's 20th league title and fourth consecutive championship. Meanwhile, Al-Arabi must win to clinch its 18th title—and only its second in the last 24 years, the last coming in the 2020–2021 season. This will be the third meeting between the two sides this season. Kuwait Club won the first leg 2-0, while the second ended in a goalless draw. The two sides will face off again next week in the Crown Prince Cup final. Kuwait Club enters the match with the league's most potent attack (65 goals) and strongest defense (14 goals conceded). Al-Arabi ranks second in both categories, with 44 goals scored and just 15 conceded. In the league, Kazma and Al-Nasr secured their Premier League status through the relegation round, while Yarmouk and Khaitan were relegated to the First Division, known as the "Oppressors League." Renowned Mexican referee César Ramos, an international official since 2014, will oversee tonight's decisive encounter. Ramos, born December 5, 1983, has officiated in the CONCACAF Champions League, the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, and notably the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup final between Real Madrid and Grêmio.

Kuwait Club and Al-Arabi enter Zain Premier League crossroads
KUWAIT CITY, April 30: Kuwait Club and Al-Arabi have moved past the Crown Prince Cup, with Kuwait Club securing a 4-2 victory over Kazma and Al-Arabi edging Qadsia 1-0 in the semi-finals last Monday. This sets up an exciting final between the two teams on May 19. Both teams have quickly shifted focus to their upcoming Zain Premier League matches, where Kuwait Club will face Al-Salmiya and Al-Arabi will take on Qadsia in the third round of the championship group tomorrow. The league remains a tight two-way race, with Kuwait Club leading the standings with 51 points, closely followed by Al-Arabi in second place with 49 points. With only three rounds remaining, the competition for third place is heating up between Qadsia (38 points) and Al-Salmiya (32 points). Despite the intensity of their Crown Prince Cup semi-final matches, both teams resumed their preparations just 24 hours later to ensure they are fully ready for tomorrow's crucial encounters. The next round is considered a "crossroads," and both teams are preparing for it with great focus and determination to secure a positive result. Al-Arabi's progression to the final was a result of solid defensive organization and standout performances, particularly from team captain and goalkeeper Suleiman Abdul Ghafoor. Kuwait Club, on the other hand, showed resilience in its comeback against the "Orange," leveraging its experience to achieve a vital win. Both teams come into the match without significant injuries, as most of their key players were available for the Crown Prince Cup semi-finals. This gives the technical staff of Kuwait Club, led by Montenegrin coach Nebojsa Jovovic, and Al-Arabi's national coach Nasser Al-Shatti, the flexibility to select their best possible lineups. The upcoming round is crucial for both teams. A win for one and a loss for the other could provide a significant morale boost for the victor, while the loser may face a dip in confidence. This dynamic could have a major impact on the race for the title, with both teams aiming to finish at the top of the table with only two rounds remaining in the competition.
