Sheikh Joaan welcomes handball team after clinching Arab championship title

KUWAIT: Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani has met in Kuwait with the Qatar men's national handball team following their 10th Arab Men's Handball Championship glory. Secretary-General of the QOC, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, and President of the Qatar Handball Association, Ahmed Mohammed Al Shaabi were in attendance. President of the QOC congratulated the players and the entire coaching and administrative staff for clinching the trophy, lauding their vibrant spirit, discipline, and tactical performance throughout the tournament. This incredible achievement underscores the ongoing efforts and long-term investment in this kind of sport and epitomizes Qatar's vision of having an integrated sports system capable of competing on continental and global stages, he underlined. This title marks Qatar's debut triumph in the history of its participation in the Arab Cup, which returned to the fore for the first time since 2002. Held in Kuwait from May 5 to 11, the tournament featured the participation of nine national teams divided into three groups. Qatar's squad capped off its campaign with a flawless record, having topped its preliminary group stage with back-to-back victories over Saudi Arabia 31-22 and Tunisia 31–30, then defeated Egypt in the semifinals with a 25–19 win, before sealing a well-deserved triumph over Bahrain 25–22 in the final match held on Sunday at Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Sports Hall.

QHA president lauds Qatar's victory in Arab championship

KUWAIT: President of the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) Ahmed Al Shaabi praised the national team's triumph in the 10th Arab Men's Handball Championship, which concluded Sunday in Kuwait. Qatar secured the title with a 25-22 victory over Bahrain in the final. Al Shaabi said that QHA is working on preparing a new team, which is why the current squad includes many new faces, alongside the departure of 11 players who participated in the recent World Championship held in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway earlier this year. He added that despite these changes, Qatari handball remains strong and competitive in all tournaments. Al Shaabi stated that the players lived up to expectations and delivered exceptional performances throughout the four matches played during the tournament. He noted that the final match against Bahrain was not an easy one, considering the fierce rivalry between the two teams in recent years. Nevertheless, Qatar's national handball team successfully emerged victorious and claimed their first-ever Arab Cup title. Qatar's national team completed the tournament with a perfect record, topping Group B in the preliminary round with victories over Saudi Arabia (31-22) and Tunisia (31-30). In the semifinals, Qatar defeated Egypt 25-19 before securing the Arab Cup title with a win over Bahrain in the final.
