Kaizer Chiefs snub Percy Tau signing: Here's why
Kaizer Chiefs have turned their backs on a Percy Tau return, one of South Africa's most celebrated football exports and a free agent on the market, according to Soccer Laduma . The 31-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns forward recently parted ways with Qatar SC, sparking speculation about a high-profile homecoming. Yet, in a twist that has left fans stunned, Amakhosi have distanced themselves from any move to sign the Bafana Bafana star. A year ago, reports suggested that Kaizer Chiefs had shown interest in bringing Tau back to the South African top flight. Now, that narrative has changed entirely. 'Of course there was a time when the club was interested in signing Percy Tau and that was when he was about to leave Al Ahly. But no longer. The technical team as well as the recruitment department have ruled out signing Percy Tau this time around. It's apparently not in the coach's plans at the moment. They pulled out of that race,' a source confirmed. It's understood that the club's technical team, aligned with the recruitment department, have made it clear that Tau does not fit within their current vision. The decision appears to be both tactical and financial. Sources close to the situation suggest that Tau's salary demands played a role in the decision to steer clear. Despite his availability and pedigree, Amakhosi have opted to focus their resources elsewhere. Tau's impressive career includes stints in Europe and the Middle East, alongside a pivotal role in South Africa's national team setup. With appearances for Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League and a successful spell with Al Ahly in Egypt, Tau remains one of South Africa's most talented and experienced forwards. His sudden release from Qatar SC made him an attractive prospect, but evidently, not attractive enough for Kaizer Chiefs. Is Kaizer Chiefs making a wise decision by passing up Tau? Long-term Kaizer Chiefs target Percy Tau officially a free agent!
Percy Tau has been released by his Qatari club, Qatar SC in what could sent Kaizer Chiefs on high alert. Chiefs are known to be on the market for experienced forwards and Tau could certainly be available timorously. Tau had only joined Qatar SC in January from Al Ahly, in what has proven to be an extremely short stint. The South African international played just 10 times for the club, in an injury ravaged spell. He failed to find the back of the net during his time there, but was able to register four assists in the process. Tau proved to be one of several exits announced by the club on Thursday, including head coach Mehdi Natfi. Several other players; Ben Malango, Javi Martinez, Badr Benoun, Carlinhos Vinicius and Ahmed Abdelkader, who's loan ends and returns to Al Ahly. It now remains to be seen where the Lion of Judah ends up next as he becomes a free agent. Before signing for Qatar, there had been rumours of interesting in Iran, North Africa as well as South Africa. On home soil it has been Chiefs who have prominently been linked with the player over the years. During the previous close season, it was claimed that Amakhosi had made inquiries and even bids for Tau, but could not meet Al Ahly's valuation. With Tau being a free agent, that opens up the pool of clubs that can entice him with a deal. It also gives Chiefs an opportunity to speak to the player directly, with only a personal package to worry about. Coach Nasreddine Nabi has recently been doing the rounds trying to attract experienced attackers. Chiefs fans, would you like to see Tau at Amakhosi? Or has that ship now sailed?
