Viewers at home and an audience at St. Jakobshalle, Basel will see 26 acts perform on Saturday evening as they hope to be crowned the winners of one of the world's most extravagant singing competitions. The Netherlands took part in the very first Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956 and have won of five occasions. ‌ One that is hoping to bring home their sixth win is Claude with his song C'est La Vie. ‌ The singer secured his country's spot after becoming one of the first 10 qualifiers in the semi-final, alongside Estonia, Albania, Sweden, Iceland, Poland, San Marino, Portugal and Ukraine. Meanwhile, the "big five" nations, which are France, UK, Italy, Spain and Germany, have skipped the semi-final part of the competition and have received an automatic qualification for the final because they provide extra financial support to Eurovision. Who is Claude? While Claude may be young, the Congolese-Dutch singer has already garnered success in the music industry with over a hundred million streams and countless sold-out shows to his name, according to Eurovision's website. ‌ His breakthrough came in 2022 when he released his debut single Ladada (Mon Dernier Mot). He won the 3FM Award for 'Best Newcomer', was named '3FM Talent', and Qmusic crowned him as 'Best Artist of the Year'. In 2024, he released his debut album, Parler Français, and has toured all over Europe in sold-out shows. After Eurovision, the artist will be heading to the Pinkpop festival in the Netherlands in June. ‌ His song, C'est La Vie, is said to be a "tribute to a parent" and in Claude's case, it's for his mother. According to Wiwibloggs, in a recent press release he said: "As a little boy and throughout my youth, she taught me to see the positive in the things you experience in life, even when you experience setbacks. "Even though it looks very dark for a moment, you should always focus on the bright side. That is exactly the message I want to convey. Life is not always easy; it goes up, it goes down, and around and around, but C'est La Vie!" ‌ The song has reached over 16 million streams on Spotify.
