BSNL 5G is now Quantum 5G, but when will BSNL launch its 5G service in India?
When will BSNL launch its 5G services? While the state-run telco has been actively conducting 5G trial runs in various Indian cities, there is no word on when BSNL 5G will be rolled out to the public. Online reports mentioned a June 2025 window, but as we fast approach July, it is becoming more and more clear that it will take some more time. However, some new developments suggest the launch of BSNL 5G is imminent, meaning it might happen any day fact, the government wants you to know, it has already launched the service, and it has in some way, but not entirely. There are two big takeaways. The government has announced that BSNL 5G services will be launched under a new banner. It is called Q-5G, where Q is short for 'quantum.' So, the first big takeaway is that BSNL 5G is officially called Quantum 5G now. The name is crowdsourced, meaning that it was picked by people at large – not by BSNL.'Because of you, we now have a name that reflects the power, speed, and future of BSNL's 5G network,' the telco posted on X, the platform previously known as Twitter. 'Together, we've not just launched a service - we've made history.'
The government touts BSNL 5G or BSNL Q-5G as a next-generation telecom network/service built indigenously from ground-up. It is being built in consultation with a consortium led by TCS and backed by others like Tejas Network, C-Dot, and ITI. No foreign player is apparently involved in the development. BSNL has been allocated the necessary spectrum in premium 700 MHz and 3.3 GHz bands and the telco has confirmed that it will use its existing and upcoming 4G towers for the rollout since they are 5G-ready. Given that it plans to set up 100,000 such towers pan-India (of which more than 50 percent are already up and running), one can expect BSNL to cover a lot of ground once its 5G services become fully now, the telco has 'soft-launched' an FWA or fixed wireless access service for enterprise customers in select circles and cities, including Hyderabad. The Quantum 5G FWA service will offer high-speed connectivity without requiring a SIM card. BSNL 5G trials are running in Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad and Chennai. With recent developments like Q-5G branding and Q-5G FWA launch, it is all but clear that BSNL is in an advanced stage and wide-scale consumer 5G roll out is almost here.
