‘In This Moment' series highlights Black leaders in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – We're just a few days away from the official start of Black History Month, which is celebrated throughout February, but one local group kicked off celebrations early on Monday night in Rochester with a book launch and panel discussion honoring local Black leaders.
The book titled In This Moment features Black leaders credited with making and inspiring change within the community. Officials told News 8 Monday that the series is all about highlighting those voices as well as preserving history.
'It covers all those areas and seeing that come forward in a creative and inventive way, just helps us to look at ourselves in a fresh way,' said Luvon Sheppard, an artist and professor of art at RIT who was featured. 'So, I think art is essential to creating liveliness in the community.'
