Two Apple Valley parks to get new playground structures
The Apple Valley Town Council recently approved the purchase of new playground structures for Corwin and Mendel parks.
The approval includes the purchase and installation of the playground structures from Playcore Wisconsin/GameTime/ OMNIA Partners.
The approval includes the addition of wood chips and the removal of existing playground equipment at Corwin Park and Mendel Park.
The price proposal of $530,000 comes with a 10% contingency to cover any unforeseen needs to complete the project, which should not exceed $583,000.
In February 2024, the town council approved the use of just over $1.3 million in Quimby Funds for priority park projects. The top two items on the priority list for improvement were the replacement of the playground structures at Corwin Park and Mendel Park, according to a staff report.
Both of these playgrounds, installed before 2000, are over 25 years old and in need of significant upgrades, staff reported.
The playground structure at Corwin Park was originally installed in 1998. Over the years, several replacement parts have been added, and while the equipment is still functional, it requires additional repairs and a full replacement.
Corwin Park is located at 18577 Corwin Road just north of Highway 18.
The existing playground equipment at Mendel Park was installed in 1996 and has experienced many broken parts that have been repaired or replaced. It is now in need of a complete replacement.
Mendel Park is located at 21860 Tussing Ranch Road and adjacent to Mariana Elementary School in south Apple Valley.
After council approval, town staff will issue an order for the purchase and installation of a new playground structure and wood chips for Corwin Park and the purchase and installation of a new playground structure at Mendel Park.
The current lead time for such a structure is 10 to 12 weeks to deliver and install from the time of purchase.
The town will need to purchase the playground equipment as quickly after approval as possible to ensure the completion of the playground by mid-June 2025.
