SASSA has confirmed that Pretoria grant recipients can collect their payments from today, with June payout dates now officially announced. Below are the payment dates for Older Person's, Disability, and Children's grants in June: Older Person's Grant 3 June 2025 Disability Grant 4 June 2025 Children's Grant 5 June 2025 All social grants, barring the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, increased in April this year. During his presentation of the 2025 Budget Speech in Parliament earlier this year, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana reported that the number of individuals receiving social grants—excluding recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant—was projected to grow to roughly 19 million in the 2025/26 financial year, and to approximately 19.3 million by 2027/28. This increase is attributed to a rising elderly population. For the 2025/26 period, Godongwana confirmed that social grants were allocated a total of about R284.7 billion. 'As outlined by the President during the State of the Nation Address, the SRD grant is intended to serve as a foundation for developing a long-term income support mechanism for unemployed individuals. 'The future direction and structure of the SRD grant will be shaped by the findings of the ongoing review of active labour market policies, which is scheduled for completion by September 2025. 'In reality, South Africa has one of the most extensive social protection systems among developing nations. This demonstrates our dedication to reducing poverty and inequality, while maintaining responsible fiscal management,' he said. The following grant increases came into effect in April: Old age grant: increased from R2,185 to R2,315 War veterans grant: increased from R2,205 to R2,335 Disability grant: increased from R2,185 to R2,315 Foster care grant: increased from R1,180 to R1,250 Care dependency grant: increased from R2,185 to R2,315 Child support grant: increased from R530 to R560 Grant-in-aid: increased from R530 to R560 According to the National Treasury's Budget Review, an additional R8.2 billion was allocated to social grants over the medium term to help offset the rising cost of living. 'A total of R35.2 billion was set aside to continue the SRD grant at its current rate of R370 per month per recipient, inclusive of administrative expenses,' the department stated. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the grant payment dates for the month of June 2025. SASSA pays grant to various beneficiaries including the Childcare grant, Old age grant and Disability grant. Here are the SASSA payment dates for June 2025: Old age grant- Tuesday, 3 June 2025 Disabilty grant- Wednesday, 4 June 2025 Childcare grant- Thursday, 5 June 2025 SASSA warns the public of a fake job advertisement circulating on social media platforms. The advertisement says that SASSA is need of a grant administrator and the salary is R21 234. The social agency stated that individuals should visit their website for job vacancies and should avoid misinformation. The Department of Social Development (DSD) has outlined why the SASSA pension cannot be increased to R5000. This comes after the United South Africa (USA) leader Riyad Isaacs submitted a petition to the Minister of Social Development urging the government to raise the SASSA pension. In an open letter submitted to both Social Development Minister and Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, Isaacs highlighted issues financial strains that pensioners face. However, the DSD said that the increase would not be feasible since the government has a set amount allocated to pay beneficiaries. 'Currently, approximately 19 million South Africans receive social grants. The government has allocated R284.7 billion for social grants for the 2025/26 financial year. Of these beneficiaries, 4.1 million are older persons who receive R2,315 per month (ages 60–74) or R2,330 per month (ages 75 and older),' explained the DSD. The Department further stated that if the grant is increased to R5000, it would mean that the government would have to allocate R246 billion for the 4.1 million pensioners, excluding other grant beneficiaries. Budget Speech 3.0: All you need to know about social grants
Good news for beneficiaries! Despite the reversal of the proposed VAT hike, the previously announced increases to social grants will remain. This was revealed by the Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana when he delivered the 2025 Budget Speech for the third time on Wednesday, 21 May. In March, Godongwana said government is very aware of the cost of living pressures faced by households, including high food and fuel prices and rising electricity and transportation costs. Godongwana said social grants will be allocated R284.7 billion in 2025/2026. These are the previously announced social grants increases for 2025: Old age grant increases by R120 in April and will increase by R10 in October Disability grants – R130 Child support grant – R30 Foster care grant – R70 Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant – R370 On Wednesday, Godongwana said from April 2025, the old age grant increased by R120 to R2 310 and is set to increase by an additional R10 to R2 320 in October, as originally announced in March while the COVID-19 social relief of distress grant will be extended to the end of March 2026. Godongwana said government is actively exploring various options to better integrate this grant with employment opportunities. This includes considering a job-seeker allowance and other measures, as part of the review of Active Labour Market Programmes. 'Our goal is to not only provide immediate relief. It is also to create pathways to employment, empowering our citizens to build better futures for themselves and their families,' he said.
