According to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV), the REAL ID ACT was passed by Congress in 2005. the law, officials said, establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards that can be used for federal purposes.
Security procedures at GSP, a representative said, will largely remain unchanged for passengers, but those coming through the airport without a REAL ID 'may be subject to random additional screening at the TSA security checkpoint.'
GSP said that 63% of South Carolinians already have a REAL ID, with more than 80% of air travelers being estimated to have one.
How do I know if I have a REAL ID?
If there is a star on your driver's license or state ID card, you have a REAL ID-compliant card. The star may be black or gold, completely filled in or just the outline. Either way, you're compliant.
