Transatlantic flight re-routes to Shannon Airport for medical emergency
Royal Jordanian flight RJA-283 took off from Washington in the US before making contact with air traffic controllers in Ireland.
The crew informed Irish ground staff of an unwell passenger on board.
The plane was cleared to reroute to Shannon Airport, as per the crew's request, and the National Ambulance Service was advised of the incoming aircraft.
The transatlantic flight landed at Shannon Airport shortly after 8am, where the patient onboard was assessed before they were transported to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment.
The flight took off again just after 10.30am, continuing its journey to the Jordanian capital city.
A spokesperson for The Shannon Airport Group said: 'We can confirm that a Royal Jordanian flight from Washington to Amman diverted to Shannon Airport at 7:10 this morning due to a medical emergency. A passenger was transferred to UHL by ambulance and the aircraft departed Shannon again at 10:38.'
