Cops seize millions of ringgit worth of ganja intended for European market
PETALING JAYA: Millions in ringgit worth of marijuana intended for the European market was seized after a series of raids by Bukit Aman.
In a statement Friday (April 25), Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) acting director Deputy Comm Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali said that the department launched the operation on April 23 leading to the arrest of two men, a local and a Chinese national aged 34 and 38 years old, respectively.
The first arrest was made at a restaurant in Sepang at around 5.25am while the second was made in Kota Warisan at around 6.15pm.
"The police also raided a rented house in Bukit Changgang, Banting, where 144 packages of suspected marijuana were found weighing 75.51kg.
"The estimated value of the seized drugs was around RM2.64mill and could have been used by 151,000 drug addicts," he said.
Investigations showed that both suspects were exporting the drugs to Europe with the syndicate being active since early January this year.
The house, a homestay, was used as a storehouse and both paid around RM180 per month for rent.
"Both tested negative for drugs and they have no prior criminal records. Checks are being conducted to verify if the Chinese national had entered the country using valid documents," he said.
