Better infrastructure to come
JOHOR BARU: Johor is accelerating infrastructure development plans with a total of 124 federal-level projects.
State works, transportation, infrastructure and communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, who disclosed this, said the projects reflect a strategic push to boost connectivity and economic growth across Johor.
He said 117 of the projects are managed by the Public Works Department (JKR), with the others by the relevant agencies.
'The total estimated value of all projects under the Works Ministry's purview stands at more than RM6.8bil, covering various stages of planning and construction,' he said.
Mohamad Fazli said he attended a recent meeting with ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim with key Federal Government agencies' directors to discuss the direction and implementation of these critical federal initiatives in Johor.
'It was not just about reviewing numbers, but about strategic alignment and coordination between federal and state agencies to prevent project delays and ensure smooth execution,' he added.
Mohamad Fazli said of the 117 projects under JKR, 106 are still in the pre-implementation stage and valued at about RM6.4bil.
Seven projects are already under active construction with a combined value of RM152.3mil, four others in preliminary research and worth RM249.9mil.
Mohamad Fazli said the meeting also discussed the proposed construction of a new flyover interchange at KM18 of the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway near Lima Kedai in Iskandar Puteri.
'This new interchange is to connect the expressway to Jalan Gelang Patah and Jalan Ulu Choh to greatly ease traffic flow and improve access to growing industrial and residential zones.
'The Lima Kedai interchange project is especially critical for west Johor. It will enhance connectivity to key economic zones and reduce congestion in the surrounding areas,' he added.
The exco member said with clear direction as well as federal and state synergy, these projects would not only support Johor's economy but also bring great improvement to the daily routines of Johoreans.
