#SHOWBIZ: UK Court grants Chris Brown RM28.63mil bail ahead of world tour
LONDON: US singer Chris Brown was granted bail by a London court yesterday over a charge of serious assault, after agreeing to pay a £5 million (RM28.63 million) security fee.
The 36-year-old is set to begin his world tour next month.
According to news reports, Brown has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm in what prosecutors described as an "unprovoked attack" on music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub in 2023.
Brown has not yet been asked to enter a plea to the charge.
He was not present at Southwark Crown Court when Judge Tony Baumgartner approved his bail.
The R&B star, a two-time Grammy Award winner known for hits such as Loyal, Run It, and Under the Influence, is due to kick off his Breezy Bowl XX tour in the Netherlands on 8 June.
He was arrested at a hotel in Manchester, northern England, last week after returning to the UK for the first time since the incident two years ago.
Initially denied bail on Friday, Brown was granted bail on Wednesday on the condition that he pay £4 million (RM22.9 million) upfront, with a further £1 million (RM5.73 million) due within seven days.
He has also been required to surrender his passport, except when travelling for tour commitments.
Brown is scheduled to appear at Southwark Crown Court on June 20.
