'Mualaf' have never been marginalised - Mohd Na'im
KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has stressed that new Muslim converts, or 'mualaf', in the country have never been marginalised. He said this was evident from the continuous efforts by the government and religious agencies to assist them in starting their new lives, including through zakat aid. Citing the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) as an example, Mohd Na'im said the religious agency provided 38 zakat aid schemes covering welfare, housing, economic, and medical clusters. 'According to MAIWP's zakat distribution data as of May 2025, MAIWP has registered 1,098 mualaf compared to only 968 mualaf in 2024 in the Federal Territories. For 2025, the total distribution for the asnaf mualaf (eligible new convert zakat recipients) category is RM9.3 million,' he said in a Facebook post on Friday (May 30). He added that religious agencies were always prepared to engage with and assist mualaf and other asnaf groups facing difficulties, assuring that they would not be left to face life's challenges alone. In this regard, Mohd Na'im urged all new converts to deal directly with zakat counters, religious offices, or official institutions. 'Finally, I call upon zakat agencies, mosques, and religious officials to always be prepared and attentive to the needs of mualaf. We must ensure they are always well-cared for, not left to face their new lives alone,' he said.

UEM edgenta secures order book worth RM1.1bil in Q1, bringing total to RM9.3bil
KUALA LUMPUR: UEM Edgenta Bhd has secured an order book worth RM1.1 billion in the first quarter ended March 31, 2025 (1Q FY2025), bringing the company's cumulative order book to RM9.3 billion as at March 31, 2025. Chief financial officer Ahmad Fazril Fauzi said the RM1.1 billion represents 39 per cent of the total order book secured in FY2024. "We secured RM2.8 billion for the whole of last year, and by the first quarter of this year, we have already achieved 39 per cent of that," he said during a virtual analyst and media briefing today. Of the RM9.3 billion order book, RM5.8 billion is contributed by infrastructure services, followed by healthcare solutions (RM2.5 billion), property and facility solutions (RM600 million), and asset consultancy (RM400 million). "We are bullish on the performance going forward, supported by the positive momentum of its international operations as we secured contract wins in key markets such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Singapore. "The group's operations in Saudi Arabia and the UAE achieved a strong 24 per cent year-on-year revenue growth, driven by effective integration efforts and the scaling of newly acquired entities" he added. Elaborating further, he added that in Singapore, new contract wins amounting to RM462.8 million within the Healthcare Solutions division contributed to an encouraging order book, while additional wins in Taiwan (RM328.7 million) are also supporting the group's efforts to stabilise and strengthen its business performance. Commenting on its financial results ended March 31, 2025, Ahmad Fazril said the company is expected to return to profitability as early as the second quarter after recording losses in 1Q FY2025. He attributed the losses to cyclical factors. UEM Edgenta turned red in 1QFY2025, registering a net loss of RM17.95 million compared with RM9.77 million in the same quarter a year ago, while revenue declined to RM646.06 million versus RM677.6 million recorded previously.

MAIWP ordered to find Muslim convert after viral plea over abuse, lack of assistance
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), particularly its Asnaf Tracking Unit, has been instructed to locate a female Muslim convert (mualaf) who recently went viral on social media after expressing her intention to leave Islam, claiming she had received no assistance and had been abused by her husband. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said this was to ensure immediate assistance could be extended to the woman. "I have watched the viral video and have contacted MAIWP to search for the woman so that we can offer help. "At the same time, I believe there is a need to meet her personally to obtain further details, as there are still many unclear matters," he told reporters after an engagement session with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and MAIWP's strategic partners for 2025, held here today. He also urged the woman or anyone who knew her to contact MAIWP so that further action and appropriate support could be given. On the woman's claim that she was beaten and abandoned by her husband while pregnant, Mohd Na'im said if the allegations were true, she has the right to dissolve the marriage under the Syariah law. "The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), before his passing, left an important message; that husbands must not oppress their wives. "When a woman embraces Islam through marriage, the husband's responsibility to guide and care for her becomes even greater," he said. Mohd Na'im also called on the Muslim community to be more compassionate towards converts who needed support and aid so that they do not feel sidelined or lose faith in the religion. "We need to show empathy and concern. I would also like to advise mosques, suraus, and all Islamic agencies, including MAIWP, to treat converts seeking help with kindness," he added. He said as of May this year, MAIWP had registered 1,098 converts in the Federal Territories compared to 968 last year. A total of RM9.3 million in aid has also been disbursed. Mohd Na'im further assured that all agencies under his purview would assist every individual in need, including converts who needed support, protection, and guidance. "I do not want a single overlooked case to lead to the religious agencies being blamed or viewed negatively. "We will continue to improve and ensure that those in need receive the help they deserve," he said. – Bernama
