MIRI (April 29): The RM208.9 million Kuala Baram Delta Miri Access Channel Dredging and Deepening Project is progressing ahead of schedule and on track for early completion, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. Speaking during a site visit and conducting an inspection tour by boat today, Uggah commended the joint venture contractors, Rimbun Prima Sdn Bhd (RPSB) and China Communications Construction Company (M) Sdn Bhd (CCC) for their commitment and ability to meet the project's challenges. 'It is currently 0.3 per cent ahead of schedule and so far, we are very pleased to see the progress. It appears they have both the resources and the technology to deliver,' said Uggah, who also serves as Second Minister for Finance and New Economy and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development. 'There's still a lot of work ahead, but this is a project that, when completed, Sarawak can truly be proud of,' he added. The project started in July last year and is expected to finish by the end of 2026—six months earlier than its original March 2027 deadline. The joint venture contractors, Rimbun Prima Sdn Bhd (RPSB) and China Communications Construction Company (M) Sdn Bhd (CCC) is undertaking the dredging and the construction of two six-kilometre-long dikes, each with a depth exceeding 25 metres,. The contractors are working round the clock to meet their early delivery pledge. 'We agreed from the beginning that the training bund must be ready by the end of 2026,' he said. 'They have confirmed that they are sticking to this schedule, and we will be monitoring the progress closely, ' Uggah told the press at the site. Uggah noted that his visit today was part of the Sarawak government's emphasis on a hands-on and delivery-focused approach. 'The Premier has directed us to go to the ground regularly. Being present makes a difference, as it allows us to address issues as they arise, discuss them amicably, and ensure that the project ultimately benefits the state, our people, and the economy.' Also present during the inspection were Minister for Transport Sarawak Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development II (Port Development) Datuk Majang Renggi, Miri Port Authority (MPA) chairman Dato' Paulus Palu Ngumbang, MPA general manager Serawa Budol, JKR State Director Ir Dr Cassidy Morris and Miri Resident Galong Luang. ahead of schedule development douglas uggah embas dredging project

This Clever Trick Keeps Bird Baths Clean and Algae-Free
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Bird baths can get grimy over time, but the experts have revealed a clever hack to keep them clean — and all you need is a copper coin. Unclean bird baths can quickly develop algae and algal toxins, as well as a host of bacteria. Algae can appear as scum or foam and also make the water appear cloudy or greenish. If you notice algae growing, clean your bird bath using warm soapy water and a sponge, and place a copper coin in the middle before refilling with fresh water. Copper is a natural algicide, meaning it inhibits the growth of algae when present in water. This tried-and-true method helps lower algae while keeping your bird bath cleaner for longer. The RPSB confirms is not dangerous to birds. Sam Stevens, garden design expert at Pergolux UK, says: "Spring is on its way and a lot of people will be looking at their gardens and getting them ready for brighter and longer days ahead. "Cleaning the garden doesn't have to be an expensive job at all. We all love a cheap and cheerful hack and the good news is that there are plenty of items you'll already have in your home that can be used in the garden. "Whether you need to buff away stains, achieve a streak-free finish on glass, or get rid of rust, there will be something in your house for everything." Bird baths, as well as bird feeders, should be cleaned regularly before refilling. Remove any debris and scrub down thoroughly. Lucy Taylor, bird expert for Vine House Farm, adds: "Clean bird baths daily and allow them to air dry before refilling. "The drying process helps ensure that the Trichomonosis parasite does not survive."
