Vikram Sugumaran death: Tamil filmmaker Vikram Sugumaran, known for his powerful rural narratives and realistic storytelling, has passed away following a cardiac arrest. As per a report by Asianet, the director breathed his last while travelling by bus from Madurai to Chennai. The news of his untimely death shocked the Tamil film industry. Friends and colleagues who had worked with him over the years took to social media to remember the late director and express their grief. Actor Shanthnu Bhagyaraj shared a series of pictures with Vikram and wrote a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter). '#Rip dearest brother @VikramSugumara3 I've learnt so much from you & will always cherish every moment. Gone too soon. You will be missed #RIPVikramSugumaran." Actor Kayal Devaraj, too, mourned the loss and gave more context on the tragic circumstances surrounding Vikram's death. In a post on X, he wrote: 'June 2, I really can't believe this news. Vikram Sugumaran is a Tamil film director and screenwriter best known for his authentic portrayal of rural life and complex social themes. He made a strong debut with Madha Yaanai Koottam (2013), a film that earned acclaim for its raw, gripping portrayal of caste-based tensions in rural Tamil Nadu. Before turning director, he honed his craft under legendary filmmaker Balu Mahendra and also worked on Subramaniyapuram (2008), contributing as a dialogue writer. Vikram's work is marked by its raw realism, cultural depth, and commitment to telling rooted, socially relevant stories within the Tamil cinema landscape. After a brief hiatus from filmmaking, he returned in 2023 with Ravana Kottam, starring Shanthanu, Anandhi, Prabhu, and Ilavarasu. Though the cast was promising, the film didn't perform well at the box office.
