Husband wins lottery prize, then 3 years later, wife wins using same lucky numbers
The numbers a Maryland woman selected while playing a lottery game were not random, she told lottery officials. 'These numbers are lucky,' the Charles County woman said. About three years prior, her husband had used the same set of numbers and won $14,847, the Maryland Lottery said in a March 26 news release. Yet, she was still surprised when she saw she'd won March 20, according to lottery officials. The lucky player won $73,767 playing Racetrax — the same game her husband had won. 'I immediately called my husband at work to tell him how I won using those same numbers,' she told the lottery. But when her husband got the call, he didn't believe her, he told lottery officials. 'She plays too much,' he said. 'But, I knew she was serious this time when she sent me a picture she took of the message.' The lucky player bought her ticket at a tavern in Fort Washington, about a 30-mile drive south from Washington, D.C., lottery officials said. She played the numbers 8, 12, 4 and 2 for 20 drawings with a bonus, the lottery said.

Lottery player lands third big win with $10 scratch-off in Maryland. ‘Extremely happy'
A man who landed his third big lottery win was feeling 'extremely happy,' Maryland Lottery officials said. The lucky Burtonsville winner has won $10,000 and $50,000 in the past but had no idea a $10 scratch-off he bought would unveil a $50,000 prize, according to a March 3 news release by the Maryland Lottery. He snagged the $10 Money Bags game in Gaithersburg, and although he's excited about the third win, he doesn't plan to tell anyone the goods news besides family members, officials said. He also has different plans for this prize money, which he claimed Feb. 27, the lottery said. The other two prizes were put toward the stock market, but this $50,000 is being used toward his house, officials said. 'This time, it's going into my house. The stock market's not so good these days,' he told lottery officials. The loyal player, who also plays Racetrax, plans to stay away from lottery games before eventually easing back into playing, the lottery said. Gaithersburg is about a 40-mile drive southwest of Baltimore.

Nephew teaches uncle to play lottery game — and turns him into big winner in Maryland
An uncle discovered he could learn a thing or two from his nephew, at least when it came to playing the Maryland Lottery. A Hyattsville man was inspired to try his luck at Racetrax while hanging out with his nephew who is a big fan of the game, officials said in a Jan. 28 news release. His nephew's tips landed the novice a big win of $61,690 in the unfamiliar game of horse racing and betting. 'I was just hanging out with him,' he told officials. 'I'm not a big gambler. He said, 'Do the wheel.' He taught me how to play.' So he placed a $1 Superfecta Wheel bet for a race with the 9, 10, 11 and 1 horses in the game, officials said. He bet the 9, 10 or 11 horse would come in first, second and third place and the 1 horse would place fourth. 'The uncle wasn't even paying attention when his horses won, galloping across the finish line in 11, 9, 10 and 1 order,' officials said. It was the local government retiree's biggest win ever, even topping a $10,000 scratch-off prize he once won, officials said. Scratch-offs are his go-to lottery game. 'I was excited, but I said, 'It's nothing but bill money,'' he told officials. Besides paying bills, he'll also use some of the money to go golfing and bowling. Hyattsville is about a 35-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
