across the state with the introduction of PU classes from this academic year. The decision received a good response from both parents and students in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts.
Both districts have ten such model schools. Apart from students of Adarsha Vidyalayas other students can also take admissions for PU from this the start of PU classes, the department of PU education sped up the establishment of a well-equipped library, science and computer lab, recruiting guest faculty, and improvement of infrastructure in such schools. The state govt established these schools along the lines of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools of the Union govt in 2010-11, with the intention to provide quality education for
meritorious Kannada medium students
studying in rural areas.

As the state govt introduced English as the medium of instruction from class 6 to 10 in Adarsha Vidyalayas, selecting meritorious students after conducting entrance exams and providing them academic facilities has become hugely popular in rural Adarsha Vidyalayas were set up in in Sosale in T Narasipura taluk, Debur in Nanjangud, Jockey Quarters near JC Nagar in Mysuru, Hunsur, KR Nagar, and Periyapatna.

The department paid Rs one crore for the upgradation of each Adarsha Vidyalaya, he added."The start of PU science and commerce courses in Adarsha Vidyalayas is a boon for parents like me to enrol my daughter in the science stream as I cannot afford the fees fixed by private PU colleges along with lakhs spent on the hostel accommodation," said Mahadevaswamy, a parent from Sosale.
