Racing Louisville's Kayla Fischer receives 3-match suspension for hair-pull foul vs. Angel City
Racing Louisville's Kayla Fischer has been suspended for three games after pulling an opponent down by the hair, the NWSL announced Thursday. The foul took place in the second half of Louisville's 3-2 win over Angel City on Saturday. In the 63rd minute of the match, while defending a corner kick in the box, Fischer grabbed Angel City midfielder Madison Hammond's hair, pulling her down in the process. After video review, the referee gave Fischer a red card and awarded a penalty kick. Advertisement Alyssa Thompson nailed the penalty, but ACFC was unable to overcome Louisville's early lead. Racing held on to win the away match despite having only 10 players for the final 30 minutes. As a result of the red card, Fischer automatically received a one-game suspension. But in a press release on Thursday, the NWSL announced that Fischer would be suspended an additional two games. Per the league, her actions were deemed "Major Game Misconduct," and in violation of the NWSL's League Operations Manual. Fischer and the club can appeal the ruling, but are not likely to do so, per ESPN. Advertisement Fischer will serve her suspension during Racing Louisville's matches against the Utah Royals on June 6, the Kansas City Current on June 14 and the Orlando Pride on June 20. Due to a lengthy international break in July, Fischer will not return to the field for Louisville until Aug. 1, when the team host the Current again. Fischer, 25, has started all 10 of Louisville's games so far this season. She has two goals and two assists, tied for second most on the team.

NWSL suspends Racing Louisville's Kayla Fischer two additional matches for pulling player's hair
The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced Thursday that it is escalating its disciplinary decision on Racing Louisville forward Kayla Fischer, who received a straight red card and one-game suspension during a match against Angel City FC that ended in a 3-3 draw on May 24 in Los Angeles. Fischer now faces an additional two-game suspension for 'her actions in an incident that occurred' in the 64th minute of the match, the league's statement reads. Advertisement In the lead up to a Racing corner kick, Fischer grabbed the ponytail of Angel City midfielder Madison Hammond and yanked her by the head toward the ground as the kick was taken. 'After further review of the altercation, the Disciplinary Committee determined that Fischer's conduct violated Section 12.4.10, 'Major Game Misconduct,' of the League Operations Manual,' the league said. Prior to that incident, Fischer had been shown three yellow cards this season. In addition to Racing's June 6 match against the Utah Royals, for which Fischer was already ineligible due to the initial red card, she will also be unable to play in Racing's next two matches against the Orlando Pride on June 14 and the Kansas City Current on June 20. She will not be able to rejoin the squad in the regular season until after the summer break on Aug. 1, when the team faces the Current again. The league's judgment comes less than a month after another Racing player, Brazilian forward Ary Borges, also received additional disciplinary action following a tense meeting with the Portland Thorns on April 27, which also ended in a 3-3 draw. Borges was found to have pushed the center referee after the game and was initially handed a red card for her behavior, but the league increased her suspension from one match to three after further review of the incident. At 4-2-4, Racing occupies the eighth spot in the NWSL table, narrowly inside playoff contention.

Report: Racing's Kayla Fischer suspended for hair-pulling foul
Racing Louisville midfielder Kayla Fischer received a three-game suspension for a hair-pulling incident, ESPN reported Thursday. Fischer earned a red card and was ejected in the 67th minute of Saturday's 3-2 win against Angel City FC. Replays showed her taking ACFC midfielder Madison Hammond to the ground by her hair during a corner kick. The NWSL's disciplinary committee added two games to the automatic one-game red-card suspension after reviewing the event, ESPN reported. A league spokesperson declined to comment on the report but Fischer issued an apology through ESPN. "I would like to apologize to Madison Hammond and Angel City for my actions last weekend," Fischer said. "It was never my intention to be overly aggressive while defending a corner, and I sincerely regret my behavior and letting my teammates down. I accept and understand the league's decision. "When I return to the field later this season, I plan to show that I have learned from my actions and that this moment doesn't define me as a player or the respect I have for my opponents and the game." Fischer, 25, has two goals and two assists in 10 starts this season. Louisville has three matches left before the league's summer break, leaving her out until Aug. 1. --Field Level Media

NWSL roundup: Seattle Reign blank Racing Louisville
May 18 - After storms rolled through Kentucky on Friday night, Racing Louisville and Seattle Reign postponed their scheduled match to Saturday and Maddie Dahlein's goal helped the Reign earn a 1-0 victory. Seattle (4-3-2, 14 points) earned the win through a hustle play in the 39th minute, when the Reign kept a ball from going out of bounds. After Seattle kept possession going, Samantha Meza found Dahlein down the left flank and the forward buried a shot across the face of goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer and into the right corner of the net. With high wind still rolling through the area, crosses and shots lifted in Louisville, which made offense hard to come by for Racing (3-4-2, 11 points) and Samantha Demelo's ability to cross into dangerous areas. Racing managed only one shot on goal with 20 shots total, compared to only four total shots with three on target for Seattle. The Seattle win halts a three-match unbeaten streak (2-0-1) for Louisville. Meanwhile, the Reign have won two of their past three games Courage 2, Stars FC 0 Manaka Matsukubo scored a second-half brace and goalkeeper Casey Murphy made four saves as North Carolina blanked Chicago in Cary, N.C. After a scoreless first half, Matsukubo gave the Courage (3-3-3, 12 points) a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute, taking a through ball from Denise O'Sullivan and delivering a shot to the bottom left corner of the box for her first goal of the season. The Courage padded their lead in the 77th minute, when Matsukubo took a pass from Shinomi Koyama and found the right top corner of the net. For Murphy, it marked her third clean sheet of the season as the Courage improved to 3-0-1 in their last four games. For Chicago (1-7-1, 4 points), goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher kept her team within striking distance with six saves. In their past four games, the Stars are 0-3-1. Spirit 3, Royals 3 Casey Krueger scored late in second-half stoppage time to salvage a point for Washington in the nation's capital in a draw against Utah. A match that featured three lead changes went into the 12th minute of second-half stoppage time. Tara McKeown kept the ball from going out for a goal kick and sent in a cross that Krueger buried to give the Spirit (5-3-1, 16 points) their first draw of the season. Utah (1-6-2, 5 points) goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn saved nine shots, including a penalty kick by Ashley Hatch in the 90th minute. That save stopped Hatch's league-record 11-0 perfect penalty kick record, though she did score in the first half. Utah's Cece Kizer scored one of the game's five first-half goals but left the match in the 54th minute after taking a hit. Bay FC 2, Angel City FC 0 Penelope Hockin and Caroline Conte scored as Bay FC welcomed their in-state rivals from Los Angeles in a 2-0 win at San Jose. Before the match, Bay FC (3-4-2, 11 points) scored multiple goals in a regular season match only once. It only took five minutes to score twice, and it began in the 23rd minute when a cross by Taylor Huff went by two teammates and landed at the feet of Hocking, who gave the home side an early lead. Then in the 28th minute, Huff and goalkeeper Angelina Anderson of Angel City (4-3-2, 14 points) both went for a ball but Huff made it to the ball first, only a couple yards from the end-line. Anderson made contact and it earned Bay a penalty that gave the home side a lead it would not relinquish as Conte scored. In the second minute of second-half stoppage, Angel City star Alyssa Thompson and Bay's Alyssa Malonson both went up for a ball and their heads collided. After minutes of medical assistance, Thompson left the match while Malonson returned before the final whistle. --Field Level Media
