Almatti dam height issue: MVA netas seek meeting with flood study panel members
Kolhapur: Maha Vikas Aghadi's elected representatives have written to state irrigation minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, expressing concern over their exclusion from discussions regarding the Almatti dam height issue. They are requesting clarification on state govt's position concerning floods and Karnataka's plans for the dam's elevation. Despite Vikhe Patil's assurance at a May 21 meeting in Mumbai about including all political parties in subsequent discussions, MVA functionaries report they weren't invited to the May 31 meeting. The correspondence, endorsed by MPs Shahu Chhatrapati, Vishal Patil, and legislators from Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara districts, raises several queries. They seek information about the implementation status of the Nandkumar Vadnere committee's recommendations following the 2019 floods. The MVA politicians requested a consultation with the panel to understand their conclusions about the dam height on flooding. They also raised questions about the status of the National Institute of Hydrology's study regarding the dam's backwater effects on flooding, and whether their findings have been submitted to the govt. "Over the past month, approximately 3,000 objections have been filed with central govt by the people of Sangli and Kolhapur regarding the concerns of raising the height of the dam. What is central govt's stance on these objections, and has state govt corresponded with central govt on this matter? If not, why? These issues need clarification," said Satej Patil, Congress MLC. The representatives are also requesting details about the Maharashtra Resilient Development Programme (MRDP), a Rs 3,200 crore initiative to address recurring floods in Kolhapur and Sangli districts. They specifically asked whether scientific studies support the project's effectiveness in flood control and requested access to relevant reports.

No invite for MVA politicians for Almatti meeting
Kolhapur: Politicians of the Maha Vikas Aghadi said they received no invitation from state govt to participate in discussions regarding Karnataka's proposals to increase the Almatti dam height on the Krishna river. Recently, representatives from various parties conducted protests at Ankali Bridge, aiming to draw state govt's attention to the concerns of villagers from Kolhapur and Sangli districts. Local residents and activists said any increase in the dam's height would worsen the existing flood situation, as they attribute the current flooding to the Almatti dam. Following the dharna, govt officials conveyed that the water resources minister, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil , scheduled a meeting for Wednesday to address these concerns and discuss future steps. MVA politicians said that invitations were exclusively extended to elected representatives from Mahayuti parties — BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP — whilst MVA representatives were excluded. Nashik: State water resources minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil on Wednesday said he was ready to face any inquiry in connection with the FIR filed against him and 53 others by the Loni police station of Ahilyanagar. The Loni police, on Monday, registered a case of cheating, forgery, and other charges against Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and 53 others of the Padmashri Vikhe Patil Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana at Pravaranagar on the charge of cheating and conniving with the then officials of two nationalised banks and forging documents to secure loans worth over Rs 8 crore between 2004-2006, on a complaint as per the order of the Rahata court. Speaking to reporters in Ahilyanagar, the state minister said the case was over for him in 2019 "when the Supreme Court made it clear that no criminal case was made out as per the inquiry report submitted to it." He said, "In 2019, the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court set up an inquiry. The investigating officer submitted the report to the SC. Based on the report, the apex court stated no criminal case was made out. Hence, the petition became infructuous. The petitioner thus approached the JMFC, who in turn, under section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), ordered a police investigation, which can be done only after registering an FIR. Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) empowers a magistrate to order a police investigation into a cognisable offence upon receiving a complaint, even before taking cognisance of the offence themselves. The complainant, Balasaheb Vikhe, told TOI, "The cabinet minister is lying. The SC on March 18, 2025, ordered that a case be registered within eight weeks and a report about the same be submitted to it within the next three months." When asked about the loan taken in the name of farmers, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said the money never came to the sugar factory. He said the people of the Shirdi Assembly elected him eight consecutive times. The opposition cannot digest it, and that is why they were trying to defame him. He said that even now, there was an attempt to defame him.

FIR filed against Vikhe Patil in bogus loan waiver case
Pune: A first information report (FIR) has been registered against senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Maharashtra cabinet minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and 53 others in connection with an alleged loan waiver fraud amounting to approximately ₹8.86 crore. Loni-Rahata Police Station in Ahilyanagar district filed the case on April 28 following a court directive. The FIR names senior bank officials, directors of the Padmashri Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Cooperative Sugar Factory — an entity linked to Vikhe Patil— and others. Vikhe Patil has been named as accused number 19 in the FIR. The complaint accuses them of financial misappropriation and defrauding the government by misusing a loan waiver scheme meant for farmers. 'The offence has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) after the local court under Section 156 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) directed the Ahilyanagar police to file an offence and investigate the matter,' said a senior police officer. Police have invoked Sections 420, 415, 464, 465, 467, 471, 34, and 120 (b) of IPC in the case. According to the FIR, between 2004 and 2006, the factory's board of directors allegedly prepared forged documents in the names of member-farmers to obtain 'basal dose' loans. Basal doses of fertilisers are needed for plantation. Of the total sum, ₹3.11 crore was sanctioned by the Union Bank and ₹5.74 crore by the Bank of India. The money, however, was never disbursed to the farmers but was allegedly siphoned off by factory officials in collusion with bank officers. In 2007, the accused allegedly took advantage of a government loan waiver scheme by submitting these fake loans as genuine, thereby securing unlawful debt relief and causing a substantial loss to the exchequer. The FIR is based on a complaint by Balasaheb Kerunath Vikhe, a 66-year-old farmer and long-time member of the cooperative. He claimed that the loans were sanctioned in farmers' names without their knowledge or consent, and that the fraud was executed through coordinated efforts between factory management and bank staff. The accused have been booked under charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, and misuse of government schemes. Police said all those named in the FIR, including minister Vikhe Patil, will be investigated as per legal procedure. Police are expected to record statements and examine records from the cooperative factory and the two banks involved.
