Govt notifies new Jammu Railway Division
The new Railway Division, headquartered at Jammu Tawi and operating under the Northern Railway, has come into effect from June 1. It is the 70th division of Indian Railways. The new division will oversee a substantial area, primarily comprising sections transferred from the Firozpur Division, which is as old as the Indian Railways. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Jammu Railway Division on January 6, 2025. According to the gazette notification published May 29, key sections now under the new division include Pathankot–Jammu– Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan –Srinagar–Baramulla (423 km), Bhogpur Sirwal–Pathankot (87 km), Batala–Pathankot (68 km) and Pathankot–Joginder Nagar narrow gauge section (164 km). Jammu Division's first DRM Vivek Kumar said the formation of the division is important not only for connectivity with Kashmir, but also for defence purposes as the area is strategically cordoned. RPF in Mysuru introduces body cameras to boost railway security
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Mysuru Railway Division has introduced Body-Worn Cameras (BWCs) as a step towards modernising railway security The railway authorities said the introduction of these devices represents a significant move towards technology-driven policing, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and evidence-based enforcement. The cameras are expected to play a crucial role during on-board escort duties, passenger interactions, and preventive field operations. In all, 20 BWCs were formally inducted into the RPF of Mysuru Division at a function held recently, and Mudit Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru; Sam Prashanth J.R., Senior Divisional Security Commissioner; and E.K. Anuj Kumar, Assistant Security Commissioner, were among those present. Mr. Mittal issued the BWCs to RPF personnel, signifying the division's commitment to empowering the force with cutting-edge technology, said the authorities. To ensure proper usage, a technical demonstration was conducted by the RPF personnel who explained the operational features, technical specifications, and real-time applications of the equipment. The railway authorities said the demonstration emphasized the BWCs' utility in improving documentation, deterring misconduct, and strengthening public trust in RPF operations. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the on-going efforts to modernize the RPF and further reinforce the safety and security of railway passengers, the railway authorities added.

The facility will be offered at affordable rates for passengers. The rate starts from ₹60 for 6 hours for a medium box and goes up to ₹300 for 24 hours for an XL box that can store up to 10 bags, which can be used by family and group travellers. The advanced digital locker system is designed to offer travellers a secure, hassle-free, and tech-enabled way to store their luggage while on the move. The Railway Division is redefining how modern railway stations serve the needs of both tourists and business travellers. Smart digital locker and AC waiting hall are ideal solutions for day tourists and business travellers who arrive and leave on the same day, allowing them to move light and focus on work without the burden of luggage, according to the railway authorities. The key features of the facility include easy-to-use digital interface at the locker kiosk, mobile verification via OTP for secure access, multiple locker sizes, fully digital payments with instant locker access, 24x7 CCTV monitoring, and 24x7 customer support via phone and so on.
