Seed sellers call off strike after assurance from BJP state prez
Jaipur: Seed suppliers in the state ended their indefinite strike Friday, following assurances from agriculture minister Kirori Lal Meena and BJP state president Madan Rathore.
The strike, which began Thursday, involved more than 15,000 seed suppliers.
Rathore facilitated discussions between the seed suppliers and the agriculture minister, leading to the suspension of the strike. The suppliers are optimistic about meeting with the agriculture minister within the next day or two to discuss their issues.
On Thursday, the Rajasthan Agricultural Input Dealers Association in Jaipur had started an indefinite strike from Friday against the unfair action taken by the agriculture department.
"We had a meeting with Rathore, who gave heed to all our problems. He assured us that in some days we would be able to meet Meena. Thus, we have decided to call off the strike," said Purushottam Khandelwal, president of the Rajasthan Agricultural Input Dealers Association.
Khandelwal said the association has made a list of their demands, problems and will share those with Meena. "We were assured by Rathore that no injustice would be done to the seed manufacturers and promised our meeting with Meena and senior officials of the department to get a solution to all our problems."
