Photographer Sudhir Kasliwal, Ambassador Gurjit Singh, Ambassador Gaitiri I Kumar, Ambassador Satish Mehta inaugurating the photography exhibition The immersive photo show whisks the viewers to a bygone era to experience the lingering old world charm of Rajasthan, come alive. A master magician behind the camera, Sudhir Kasliwal unearths sights and stories, lost to the sands of time, resurrecting them through these invaluable photographs. The exhibition comes just days after internationally acclaimed photographer Steve McCurry inaugurated Sudhir Kasliwal's Darkroom 2.0. The state-of-the-art Darkroom 2.0 will offer experiences and workshops on the processes of analog photography to photographers and photography enthusiasts. Internationally renowned for its majestic forts and palaces, Rajasthan has attracted many a photographer eager to capture there relics of a bygone era of pomp and splendour. Sudhir's photographs are different. Sudhir's Rajasthan is the Rajasthan of the common folk, and the concerns that move them – a village fair, a woman baking her daily bread, a cow girl lilting homeward. In more senses than one Sudhir breaks away from stereotypes: if there is no enthusiasm to show the glory, there is not attempt to cash in on images of poverty and squalor either. Says Sudhir 'My effort is to capture things as they are, may be with a positive touch. Happiness is an attitude of mind and is not necessarily related to one's material circumstances. People can be happy and they are happy in our country and I want to show the outside world just that'.

Vance calls for closer US-India ties as trade talks progress

Vice President JD Vance pushed for stronger ties between the U.S. and India across a range of areas from energy to defense, in remarks delivered during a four-day trip to the South Asian country that brought the two nations closer to a trade deal. "This is very much a win-win partnership," Vance said in Jaipur on Tuesday. "The future of the 21st century is going to be determined by the strength of the United States and India partnership." Vance highlighted trade, defense, energy and technology as areas of cooperation in his speech. He also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government to continue efforts to lower trade barriers and purchase more American goods. The remarks are the among the clearest signs to date that the Trump administration sees India as one of its main partners at a time when it is resetting its relationship with allies around the world. Vance lavished praise on Modi and pledged that the Trump administration would not treat India with "condescension," an attitude he said was shown by past U.S. leaders. While Vance called for closer ties with India, he also said the relationship was a two-way street, calling on the Modi government to buy more American goods, particularly energy and military equipment, and talked up the potential of American F-35 warplanes to strengthen the Indian Air Force. "Americans want further access to Indian markets," Vance said in his speech, which was hosted by the Rajasthan International Centre. "This is a great place to do business and we want to give our people more access to this country and Indians." Vance's speech comes a day after a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during which the two sides made "significant progress" toward a bilateral trade deal, according to the White House. The vice president and his family are on a high-profile trip that underscores India's importance among countries seeking trade talks with the U.S. For Modi, the pressure is on to shield Asia's third-largest economy from disruptions in global trade by striking an early deal with the Trump administration. In his speech, Vance also praised Modi for the hospitality shown to his wife and three children. While urging India to cooperate more on energy with the U.S., the vice president said the world's fastest-growing major economy will be "able to build more, make more and grow more, but at much lower energy costs." ----------- With assistance from Anup Roy and Ruchi Bhatia. PM Narendra Modi's dinner wins over JD Vance's son: ‘Dad, I think I can live in India'

US Vice President JD Vance, who is currently on a four-day trip to India, on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his warm hospitality, noting that his family—especially his three children—had developed a special fondness for the Indian leader. Sharing a light-hearted moment during a gathering on India-US relations at the Rajasthan International Centre (RIC) in Jaipur, JD Vance revealed that his seven-year-old son, Ewan, even said he could live in India. JD Vance said his family was genuinely touched by PM Narendra Modi's kindness and emphasised the warm rapport his children shared with him. 'My son Ewan is seven years old. He's our first newborn son. Yesterday, we had dinner at the Prime Minister's house. The food was so good, and he was so kind to our three children. 'But after about 90 minutes in the Jaipur sun, he suggested that maybe we should move to England. So, you take the good with the bad here,' Vance said. Describing Modi as a 'special person', Vance reminisced about their first meeting at the AI Action Summit in February. He fondly recalled presenting a birthday gift to his second son, Vivek, who was turning five, during that encounter. "He managed to figure out that my second son was turning five in Paris. This was a couple of months ago. Amid a huge international policy conference, he took the time to stop by where I was staying and wish Vivek a very happy birthday, and even bring him a gift. Usha and I were genuinely touched by his graciousness," the US Vice President said. Vance added that said his three kids – Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel – built a rapport with Modi and US President Donald Trump. "We have been even more impressed by his warmth since we arrived in India. Our kids really liked and built a rapport with two world leaders - the first is President Trump. He just has a certain energy about them. And PM Modi, he is the exact same thing. They like him a lot. The kids are such good and strong characters," he said. "I also like the PM too and I think it's a great foundation for the future of our relationship," the US vice president said. The trip comes at a time when India is rushing to clinch an early trade deal with the US - its largest trading partner - before the end of the 90-day pause on the steep tariffs announced by President Donald Trump's administration. "Prime Minister Modi is a tough negotiator. He drives a hard bargain," Vance said to a big laughter from the audience. Vance said he and Modi made good progress on trade talks, and confirmed that the two sides had finalised the terms of reference for the trade negotiation. "It sets a roadmap toward a final deal between our nations," he said.
