Tamil Nadu Man's Body Mistaken For North Indian Worker's, Sent To Bihar

Chennai: The body of a Tamil Nadu agricultural labourer in his sixties was mistaken for the corpse of a worker from Bihar, and it was sent to the northern state in an ambulance by a state-run hospital in nearby Tiruvallur. When the family of the Tamil farm worker came to the Tiruvallur hospital to take home the body, they were shown a corpse of some other person, which shocked them, and they staged a protest. Subsequently, Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital officials discovered that the Tamil agricultural labourer's body had been sent to Bihar by mistake. Also, the Tamil labourer was identified as Rajendran from a village near Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district. Officials, after discovering the truth, immediately alerted the ambulance driver and directed him to return. However, by that time, the vehicle had gone about 800 km away from Tiruvallur. The corpse that the mortuary staff showed to the Tamil farm labourer family was identified as that of a worker, Manoj Manchi (55), from Bihar, who had come last month to Tamil Nadu in search of work. Rajendran died following an attempt to end his life, and Manchi passed away following an illness. While Rajendran's body arrived in Tiruvallur district on Thursday, Manchi's body was sent to Bihar after a relative claimed it. A top official of the government hospital told PTI that she had sent a report to senior officials on the incident and that she could not disclose anything more. A senior district official said an inquiry was on and all appropriate steps were being taken to fix accountability and prevent recurrence.

Hospital corpse mixed up: Tamil Nadu local's body sent to Bihar by mistake, family identifies error

Image used for representative purpose only CHENNAI: A mix-up of corpses at Tiruvallur govt hospital near Chennai resulted in the body of a 69-year-old local being dispatched to Bihar in an ambulance before officials had the vehicle turn back, when it was more than 800km on its way towards the northern state. The deceased was Rajendran, 69, a labourer who had died Tuesday at the hospital, a day after attempting suicide. The man with whom his body was mixed up was Manoj Manchi, 55, a construction labourer who fell ill and died at the hospital on June 2. After postmortem, hospital handed over a body wrapped in cloth to Rajendran's relatives on Wednesday. When the family members wished to see his face, they were shocked to see it was not Rajendran's body and protested. Hospital staff reviewed CCTV footage in front of the relatives to identify who sent out the wrong body. However, the staff claimed CCTV recordings were incomplete, and they did not have the password to access the footage, which further angered the family and led to arguments with hospital employees and police. Hospital administration launched a search and confirmed the mix-up. A probe revealed that the body given to Rajendran's family was actually that of Manchi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo The Bihar man had arrived in Chennai on May 30 and reached a road construction site on June 2. Hero who averted a rail disaster forgotten over time

KOLLAM: In the 1964 Tamil film Pachhai Vilakku, legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan halts a speeding train with nothing but a shirt a cinematic moment etched forever in popular memory. Nearly four decades later, in 2001, a similar real-life drama unfolded near Perumon bridge, in Kollam, where in 1988 a tragic train accident had shocked the entire country. That day, Vimal Bose affectionately called 'Cake' spotted a fault on the tracks just as Malabar Express was about to pass. Without hesitation, he grabbed a red banner and ran onto the tracks, waving frantically to stop the speeding train. His act prevented what could have been a devastating derailment, saving hundreds of lives. Yet, despite being hailed a hero, Vimal's life since that fateful morning has been marked by unfulfilled promises and bitter disappointment. Now 50, he is still awaiting the government job that officials had assured him—a promise backed by endorsements from Kollam MP N K Premachandran and former MLA Rajendran. Even the Kerala High Court, in 2008, instructed the Railways to prioritise his case. But more than two decades later, recognition and justice still remain elusive. Reflecting on that day, Vimal recounts, 'It was early November 2001 and I was out to fetch water for my bakery. I noticed that the railway bolts and plates had come loose. Soon, I saw the train approaching the damaged track. I grabbed a red banner from my shop and ran to stop it. Thankfully, the train stopped safely. Railway officials arrived, repaired the track, and service resumed. Despite the job recommendation by Premachandran and Rajendran, and the HC order, over 23 years have passed, and I have neither a job nor recognition. I only did what anyone would have done. If faced with the same danger again, I would act without hesitation.'
