Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded Bihar for successfully hosting the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) from May 4 to May 15. Speaking during his monthly ' Mann Ki Baat ' address, Modi said the event was a resounding success with five cities in Bihar hosting competitions that drew athletes from across the country. "They praised the sporting spirit of Bihar and the warmth shown by the people of the state. The land of Bihar is very special. Twenty-six records had been made there in the games," he said. The PM reiterated the sentiment he had expressed during the opening ceremony, which he attended via videoconference. "The more you play, the more you bloom," he said. During the inauguration, the PM had also praised CM Nitish Kumar for investing in sports infrastructure. He highlighted the development of a sports city on the Patna-Gaya highway and the recently inaugurated Rajgir Sports Academy in Nalanda. Modi added that hosting events like the KIYG would strengthen Bihar's presence in the national sporting arena. "Jo jitna khelega, woh utna khilega (the more you play, the more you bloom)," he said in his message to the young athletes. Maharashtra topped the medal tally with 58 gold medals, followed by Haryana with 39 and Rajasthan with 24. Host state Bihar secured 36 medals, including seven gold and 11 silver.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PTI Photo) PANTA: Bihar has come a long way in developing sports infrastructure and earned praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi , who lauded the state's efforts in promoting the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 open on Sunday, the PM said while India was striving to host the 2036 Olympics, Bihar, under chief minister Nitish Kumar, was actively implementing the Centre's sports-related PM highlighted key initiatives such as the upcoming sports city on the PatnaGaya highway and the recently opened Rajgir Sports Academy in Nalanda. PM said hosting the event like KIYG will further help Bihar in establishing its presence in the field of sports at national level. Declaring the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 open via a video message to athletes and guests at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, the PM said India was striving to host the 2036 Olympics. He added that Bihar, under chief minister Nitish Kumar, was actively implementing the Centre's sports-related schemes. The PM praised Nitish for investing in sports infrastructure and highlighted key initiatives such as the upcoming sports city on the Patna-Gaya highway and the recently opened Rajgir Sports Academy in Nalanda. "Sports is being developed in India as a culture, which will also increase the country's soft power. The Centre has allocated Rs 4,000 crore for sports in this year's budget. Around 1,000 Khelo India Centres are operational, including over three dozen in Bihar, as the govt remains focused on modernising sports infrastructure nationwide," he added. Welcoming athletes from all 36 states and Union territories, Nitish said the Bihar govt had provided govt jobs to 3,067 athletes who had won medals at national and international levels. He also commended PM Modi and the Union govt for supporting Bihar in the development of sports infrastructure. "Now, players winning medals are given govt jobs. Bihar is also receiving substantial support from the Centre in the areas of roads, industry, tourism and flood control. I thank PM Modi for all of this," Nitish said. Reiterating his political stance, Nitish added, "I will never leave the NDA again." Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya said Bihar was changing under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. "The state is establishing its presence at national and international levels. India must maintain its position among the top five sporting nations," Mandaviya added.
