No Gadag bandh today, clarifies SP
In the wake of confusion over a few organisations calling for Gadag Bandh on Monday, Superintendent of Police of Gadag B.S. Nemagouda has clarified that there will be no bandh. Prohibitory orders have been issued to prevent any protest.
Addressing presspersons on Sunday, Mr. Nemagouda said that in the wake of the prohibitory orders issued by the Gadag taluk magistrate and tahsildar, any unlawful assembly in support of the bandh will be against the law and strict action will be taken against those who violate this order.
The Superintendent of Police also appealed to the general public not to pay heed to any type of rumours and misinformation as no bandh will be allowed.
The bandh call has been given by Sri Rama Sene leader Raju Khanappanavar saying that local traders are being meted out injustice during the ongoing Gadag Tontadarya Mutt Jatrotsava.
However, the mutt committee supervising the annual Jatra Mahotsava has clarified that none of the local traders has been affected.
In fact, head of the mutt committee Dhanesh Desai has requested the police to take action and appealed to the general public to participate in the annual fair. On Friday, he even addressed a press conference saying that Raju Khanappanavar is engaged in misinformation campaign against the seer and the mutt, which is known for communal harmony.
