A Vaughan man is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with a homicide in September 2023, York police say. In the afternoon of Sept. 1, 2023, York officers responded to an injury call at a house near Laskin Drive and Ilan Ramon Boulevard in Vaughan, police said in a Tuesday news release. Inside, police found 50-year-old Rakesh 'Rick' Joshi, a Vaughan mortgage broker, dead with a 'significant' head injury. Police charged 51-year-old Alexander Cherniak with first-degree murder on Monday. Officials have also recovered a black Porsche 911 Turbo of interest, investigators added. York Regional Police said officers responded to a call for an injured person at 2:25 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2023 at a residence in the Laskin Dr.-Ilan Ramon Blvd. area. Attending officers found a body of a man — later identified as Rakesh 'Rick' Joshi, 50, of Vaughan — inside the home. Alexander Cherniak, 51, of Vaughan was charged on Tuesday.
