Annual town meeting for Elgin Township to be held Tuesday Elgin Township will be holding its annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Elgin Township Building, 729 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin. Among the items to be discussed, according to the township's website, will be the supervisor's annual treasurer's report, reports from elected officials, surplus property declaration and any topics brought up by residents. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. Only registered Elgin Township voters will be permitted to vote on township business. The meeting also will be available on Zoom. For more information, call 847-741-2045. Dundee Township Park District planning multiple egg hunts The Dundee Township Park District will hold several of egg hunts the weekend of April 11-13. They include: A flashlight egg hunt for kids ages 9 to 14 will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Randall Oaks Park, 1180 N. Randall Road, West Dundee. Participants need to bring their own flashlights and bags to gather eggs. The event will conclude with s'mores served by a bonfire. Six half-hour time periods are set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12, for children ages 2 to 9 to hunt for eggs outside the Randall Oaks Recreation Center, 500 N. Randall Road, West Dundee. In the event of bad weather, the event will be moved indoors. Four 15-minute time periods will be available from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Sunday, April 13, for children ages 1 to 12 to scoop for eggs in the indoor pool at the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville. Registration, fees and other information are available at 'Oddity Evening' set for April 11 at Elgin Public Museum Oddball Art Labs will present its second 'Oddity Evening' from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park. The evening will feature the opening of Oddball Art Labs' new art gallery exhibit, which will remain open through the summer, according to its website. The event also will feature Sobby the Clown, art vendors and special looks at some of Elgin Public Museum's most peculiar artifacts and collection items.

U-46 TalentFest 2025 takes stage at Hemmens on March 19 School District U-46 will host TalentFest 2025 from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Students from Bartlett, Elgin, Larkin, South Elgin and Streamwood high schools will compete for cash prizes and a traveling trophy to be displayed at the winning school, according to a post on the city of Elgin website. Audience members will vote on which performers make it to the finals and a panel of judges will choose first-, second- and third-place acts. The event is sponsored by The Hemmens, the U-46 Educational Foundation and the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission. Admission is $5. For tickets and more information, call 847-931-5900. Gail Borden library foundation's book sale next week Gail Borden Public Library Foundation's spring book sale will be held March 18-23 in the Meadows Community Rooms and the lobby of the main library branch at 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin. A preview night will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19. A $10 admission fee gives customers first access to sale items. Admission is free for the rest of the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 21-22; and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23. Books, CDS, DVDs and other items will be sold, with most priced at $1 or $2. Proceeds help support library programs and events. The youth version of the Tony Award-winning musical follows gambler Nathan Detroit and his group of gambling buddies as he seeks cash for a big dice game while avoiding authorities, according to the park district's website. Detroit's girlfriend, Adelaide, who works for the Salvation Army and is frustrated by their 14-year engagement without marriage. Tickets are $10 and are on sale at the Rakow Center front desk. Sheriff, Carpentersville PD stepping up St. Patrick's patrols The Kane County Sheriff's Office and Carpentersville Police Department are among the police agencies teaming up with the Illinois State Police for a St. Patrick's Day weekend law enforcement campaign. From Friday through Monday, March 14-17, there will be increased enforcement of alcohol- and cannabis driving laws as well as seat belt enforcement, according to news releases. Speeding, distracted driving and traffic laws will be strictly enforced, the releases said. St. Patrick's Day enforcement campaigns are funded with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant money administered by Illinois Department of Transportation.

'Laughter for the Health of It' progam at Elgin library Exercise physiologist Debbie Friend will present 'Laughter for the Health Of It,' a program on laughter exercises with gentle breathing techniques, will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. The session will feature an overview and history of using laughter for health and will explore the mental, physical and emotional benefits of laughter, according to the library's website. Participants will learn the importance of daily laughter and experience a 30- to 45-minute 'Laughter for Health' practice. The class is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. No special clothing or equipment is required. To register, go to Free tax preparation available at township senior center Hanover Township and volunteers from AARP are offering free tax preparation assistance from Wednesday, Feb. 5, through Monday, April 7, at the Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett. Appointments are required and scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a news release. Last year, 389 people took part in the program. Participants are asked to pick up the necessary documentation prior to their appointment. All returns will be filed electronically, and printouts given to each participant for their records. Senior stroll at LeRoy Oakes preserve set for Thursday The Forest Preserve District of Kane County will host a free senior stroll from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 6, from the Creek Bend Nature Center in the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles. Seniors will join naturalists in exploring the preserve and learning about the natural and cultural history surrounding the land, according to a social media post. Hanover Township spring tutoring program starts Thursday The Hanover Township spring semester tutoring program kicks off Thursday, Feb. 6, at Town Hall, 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett. Certified teachers will provide weekly, one-hour tutoring sessions from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the Hanover Township website. The program runs through May 1. The small group sessions will offer assistance for all subject matters for students in grades 2 through 8. Students in grades 9 through 12 can register for math tutoring. The fee is $60 per student. The all-ages cabaret-style show will feature music, dance, humor and other entertainment, according to the park district's website. Admission is $10 and includes dessert and soft drinks. Carpentersville's lead pipe removal project honored Carpentersville's program to remove and replace residential lead pipes is one of the projects across the state to receive a 2025 Engineering Excellence Award from the Illinois chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies. Carpentersville worked with Engineering Enterprises Inc. on the project, which removed 400 lead service lines in the village in just over three years, according to a social media post by the engineering firm. The village received $4 million through the Illinois EPA's State Revolving Fund to pay for the project. The village will receive the award during a banquet Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare Chicago in Rosemont, according to the Illinois ACEC website.
