19-year-old faces car theft charges in Memphis, Nashville
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 19-year-old accused of crimes in Memphis and Nashville is now being held in jail on a $500,000 bond after detectives say he stopped and waved at them while driving a stolen truck. Bryun Watkins is facing theft of property $60,000-$250,000 and vandalism $1,000-$2,500 charges after Memphis Police say he stole a RAM TRX truck last month. Arrest made in gas station shooting that left 2 injured In court, prosecutors say even though the incident was non-violent, Watkins' extensive juvenile record and continued threat to public safety warranted a high bond amount. According to the Shelby County District Attorney's Office, Watkins also has a pending charge in Nashville relating to a separate car theft involving four other suspects. On May 9, detectives say they saw a stolen white Ram TRX in the area of Hollywood Street and Staten Avenue. That is when the detectives say they parked across the street from the location and watched. Shortly afterward, the driver of the stolen vehicle pulled out of the parking lot and parked directly in front of the detective, blocking them in. The driver then waved at the detectives, whom they immediately recognized as Bryun Watkins. They say they also recognized the juvenile sitting in the front passenger seat. Two unknown individuals were also reported in the backseat. Ex-property management employee charged with burglarizing homes As the detectives called for backup, the driver allegedly sped off in the stolen vehicle that had a broken window on the passenger side and no tag. Detectives say they later found the stolen vehicle unoccupied in the area of Lenow Place and Lenow Park. They say the vehicle's ECM has been reprogrammed, causing the owner's keys to no longer function. Waktins was booked into jail on May 30. He is due back in court on June 20. Read the full story on The Auto Wire After having his beloved Ram TRX stolen from in front of his house, a Florida man decided to take matters into his own hands. He did things the 'right way' at first, reporting the theft to police and waiting for Broward Sheriff's Office to perform and when that was taking too long, he started searching for information about where his truck might be. Randomly looking at Facebook Marketplace didn't net any real leads, but then luck smiled on him when he received a notification that an additional 800 miles has been logged on the TRX's odometer, he told WSVN. Even though the thieves disabled the factory GPS tracker, the Ram still sent that key notification to the man. Armed with that, he started looking at cities about that far away, checking Facebook Marketplace again. That's when he found his stolen truck listed for sale near Nashville, Tennessee. Digging further, he discovered the seller had ads for quite a few other vehicles, with the strong possibility they were all stolen. Looking through those listings, he noticed that in several of them a house was in the background. Spending nine hours on Google Maps using Street View, combing through the area thoroughly, he finally found the location of that unique home. With that valuable information, he reached out to the sheriff's office in Tennessee, hopped on a plane, and within hours was reunited with his Ram TRX, which was still in one piece. Now that's determination! The guy apparently has been bit by the bug, because he's now helping other people who have had their cars stolen. What's more, the experience has prompted him to consider a career switch and get into the private investigation field. Considering what he was able to do on his own with no training, he might be the perfect fit. This story demonstrates something we keep telling people: don't just wait for police to find your stolen car. Be smart about it, but looking for it yourself is a good idea. Law enforcement are swamped in certain areas with stolen vehicle reports, so you're just another number. The police are never going to care about your case like you do. Also, this case shows the value of having a tracker other than the factory GPS unit. Thieves know to disable that, but if you have a second one hidden away, they might miss it. The leak reports that Stellantis officials confirmed the return of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 to the Ram 1500 lineup, and that the Ram TRX will return with more power for 2026. Though specifics about the new TRX's engine size were not specified, its eight hemispherical combustion chambers are confirmed. The reputable leak comes from an employee of a Wisconsin dealership who claims they were at a meeting where the announcement was made, via Sportsnaut. The beastly Ram TRX and its 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 were dropped for 2025, and replaced by the Ram 1500 RHO and the brand's new flagship engine, a 540-horsepower version of the Hurricane turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6.
