PU former VC R P Bambah passes away

Chandigarh: Former vice-chancellor of Panjab University and Professor Emeritus R P Bambah, who was also a noted mathematician and
Padma Bhushan
awardee, passed away on Monday. Panjab University held a condolence meeting during the day to mourn the death of the scholar.
Vice-chancellor Prof Renu Vig said Bambah was a distinguished academic who served as vice-chancellor from 1985 to 1991, guiding the university through a period of growth. He played a key role in setting up the country's first Centre for Advanced Study in Mathematics at PU and remained active in academic life as a member of the university senate and as professor emeritus after retirement. Prof Bambah's work in number theory and discrete geometry earned international recognition and praised his long-standing association with PU.
Former vice-chancellor Arun K Grover said Bambah was a widely respected scholar whose influence extended across Indian higher education. He said Bambah's leadership and personal integrity left a lasting impact on the university's academic culture.
The Panjab University Teachers Association also paid tribute, remembering him as a visionary leader and a true scientist. PUTA noted his receipt of the Padma Bhushan and the Ramanujan Medal and highlighted his decision to donate his body to research as a mark of his lifelong commitment to knowledge.
