Sarah McLachlan parodies her ‘Toy Story 2' song in season finale of ‘The Simpsons'
Canadian singer-songwriter and musician, Sarah McLachlan speaks to media in front of a new commemorative stamp, featuring herself in Vancouver, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Ethan Cairns TORONTO — Sarah McLachlan's taste for poking fun at herself has made its way onto 'The Simpsons.' The long-running animated series marked its season finale on Sunday night with a darkly comedic version of 'When She Loved Me,' a song she originally recorded for 'Toy Story 2.' The new version plays over a scene inspired by Itchy & Scratchy, who in the episode have launched a line of merchandise for babies, which leaves Bart and Lisa feeling like they've outgrown the violent cartoon franchise. After Marge places the toys on the curbside, a montage unfolds of the siblings' shared memories with the cat and mouse duo, as McLachlan muses about how 'blood would flow, but also so would love.' The original 'When She Loved Me' was written by Randy Newman for the Toy Story 2 soundtrack and played over a scene of Emily's memories after she parted with her Jessie the cowgirl doll. Newman and McLachlan performed the composition together at the Academy Awards in 2000 when it was nominated for best original song. The new version is much darker, with McLachlan warmly singing: 'They laugh at all our violence and horrors quite unsuitable for children as guts rain from above.' The Halifax-born singer posted a clip on her Instagram and wrote: 'The parody song you never saw coming… still kinda heartbreaking, no?' It's not the first time McLachlan has joked about her weepy ballads and their cultural impact. She's parodied her 1998 song 'Angel,' and its use in an animal-rights fundraising campaign several times, including in a sketch for the Juno Awards and a Super Bowl beer commercial. This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 20, 2025. David Friend, The Canadian Press

Ye claims streamers banned his new single 'Heil Hitler'
Kanye West's new single "Heil Hitler" is not getting the warm reception on streaming services that he'd imagined. West, now know as Ye, has teased the incendiary single for days on livestreams, but to little success on music streaming platforms. The rapper released it on Soundcloud on Thursday, only for it to vanish a day later. The rapper posted on X to lament the song's fate in the digital marketplace. "'Heil Hitler' by Ye has been banned by all digital streaming platforms,' he wrote. (The song is currently not available on Spotify or Apple Music.) West then compared his fate to that of Randy Newman, whose song "Rednecks" controversially uses an epithet for Black people to satirize racism. "'Rednecks' by Randy Newman remains streamable," West wrote. "They're literally keeping the n—-s down.' West's song is a bleak cut even beyond the ragebait title. He lashes out at his ex Kim Kardashian over their custody arrangement: 'With all this money and fame, I still can't get my kids back / With all this money and fame I still can't see my children.' West seems upset that he 'became a Nazi, yet b—, I'm the villain,' and closes the song with a sampled Hitler speech. West's attempts to get back into the media have been tumultuous — he was recently banned from Twitch minutes into his first livestream, and walked off the set of Piers Morgan's talk show after the host misstated his follower count on X. 'I'm a gift, bro. Why do all you people in media act like you haven't played my songs at your weddings, or graduations or at funerals or when your child was born?' West said. "It just shows the hate that you put out for people that put out love. There's so much love in the art that I put out. This is what you get for now, we can circle back when you can count.' Kanye West claims new song ‘Heil Hitler' was banned by streaming platforms
ALBAWABA - Kanye West sparks controversy again as his new song 'Heil Hitler' gets removed from major streaming platforms. Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) tried to release his new song, "Heil Hitler," but he says streaming services removed it and DSPs have prohibited it. West had been hinting about the single for a while, and on Thursday, May 8, he posted his new song to SoundCloud. However, it has since been taken down. Ye posted on X, "All digital streaming platforms have banned Heil Hitler by Ye," before highlighting the unfairness of streaming restrictions in his opinion. "They're literally keeping the n—-s down, even though Randy Newman's Rednecks is still streamable." Heil Hitler by Ye has been banned by all digital streaming platforms while Rednecks by Randy Newman remains streamable They're literally keeping the niggas down — ye (@kanyewest) May 8, 2025 In the song, Ye talks about his custody battles with Kim Kardashian, his ex-wife, over their four children. He also claims that banks are freezing his accounts and rapping about his usage of nitrous. He raps, "I still can't see my kids, even with all this fame and money, and I still can't get my kids back." West asserts that he "became a Nazi, yet, b—h, I'm the villain" and repeats the song's title in the refrain. Adolf Hitler's German address is used in part of the horn-tinged outro. Billboard has reached out to reps for Ye as well as SoundCloud and Spotify. Ye had been teasing the song for weeks now, with several snippets appearing on Sneako's stream during the song's development. This came after his antisemitic X tirades in which he praised Hitler. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 02: Kanye West (Roy Rochlin / Getty Images via AFP) West has had a rough week. On Tuesday, May 6, he rushed off the set of a confrontational interview with Piers Morgan only minutes after it started, after the host of Uncensored miscounted Ye's followers on X. Before leaving the interview, the Chicago native stated, "You're not going to take inches off my di–, bro." "Dude, I'm a gift. Why do all of you in the media pretend that you haven't performed my music at your weddings, graduations, funerals, or childbirths? He continued, 'You take someone like that's living, like a [John] Lennon or a Michael Jackson. That particular detail is ridiculous. It only demonstrates the hatred you have for those who express affection. My artwork exudes a great deal of affection. You get this for the time being; once you can count, we can go back.
