Kendrick Lamar Blocks Himself From A New No. 1 Hit

Kendrick Lamar and SZA's 'Luther' holds No. 1 on Rap Airplay chart as 'Peekaboo' with AzChike hits ... More No. 2 — which means the rapper blocks himself from a new champion. (Photo by) As Kendrick Lamar's gargantuan hit "Luther," featuring SZA, begins to decline at pop radio, it's holding steady on rap-focused airwaves in the United States. The two superstars continue to lead Billboard's Rap Airplay chart, which ranks the most successful tracks at radio stations that focus on that one genre. While another turn at No. 1 is certainly good news for both, the man out in front may soon want to step aside to allow another winner to soar. This week, Lamar blocks himself from scoring another No. 1 on the Rap Airplay chart. As "Luther" rules, "Peekaboo" — his collaboration with AzChike — climbs again. The tune swaps spots with Drake's "Nokia" and reaches a new high of No. 2. "Peekaboo" could become another champion for Lamar on the Rap Airplay list – and the first for AzChike in the coming weeks – but first, "Luther" will have to decline enough in popularity. Lamar has already scored eight No. 1s on the Rap Airplay chart — exactly half of the 16 tracks he's pushed into the top 10. Now that it's reached the runner-up spot, "Peekaboo" joins "Loyalty" (featuring Rihanna) and "Poetic Justice" (with his now-rival Drake) as his only tunes to stall at No. 2. While he doesn't manage to score a new champion this frame, Lamar's "Luther" is enjoying a standout frame on the Rap Airplay chart. The track has now led the tally for 10 weeks, and it's just his third cut to rule for a double-digit frame. "Not Like Us" remains in the lead with 17 weeks at No. 1, followed by "Humble" with an even dozen. In addition to appearing at Nos. 1 and 2 on the Rap Airplay chart, Lamar claims another pair of top 10 smashes on the competitive ranking. "Squabble Up" holds at No. 4 after climbing to a peak of No. 3. "TV Off" — yet another track taken from his latest album GNX, which features Lefty Gunplay — dips to No. 6 after once dominating.

Kendrick Lamar's Winning Streak Broken Up Only By Drake

Kendrick Lamar dominates Billboard's Rap Airplay chart with four GNX singles, including the No. 1 ... More 'Luther' with SZA and three more inside the top five. (Photo by Christopher Polk/Billboard via Getty Images) Kendrick Lamar's latest album GNX is proving to be even more successful than he may have imagined when he dropped it. At this point, the full-length has been out for months, and while the project itself is still performing well, multiple singles from the release are not just holding on — they're either dominating charts, or sitting very close to the summit on many lists. It's not odd that Lamar has produced multiple hits from his album, but what is noteworthy is that he is pushing several tunes from GNX as radio singles at the same time – and they're all smashes. Lamar demonstrates his near-unparalleled popularity most vividly on Billboard's Rap Airplay chart, where he claims most of the top-performing tunes in the U.S. this frame. He occupies all but one of the highest five spaces on the radio ranking – an incredible showing that very few artists in history have managed on any airplay list. Lamar and SZA's 'Luther' remains at No. 1 on the Rap Airplay tally again this frame. Out of the 22 weeks that the track has spent on the ranking, half a dozen have been spent at the summit. Back at its all-time peak of No. 3 is 'Squabble Up,' which lifts from No. 4 this frame. It trades places with previous champion 'TV Off,' a collaboration with Lefty Gunplay. Yet another GNX smash, 'Peekaboo,' which features AZChike, is on the rise. This time around, it jumps from No. 7 to No. 5. As it soars, the catchy collaboration reaches a new high point on the Rap Airplay list. Most of Lamar's current hits on the Rap Airplay tally have spent about the same amount of time on the list. Both 'Luther' and 'TV Off' have racked up 22 stays, while 'Squabble Up' arrived just one week earlier. 'Peekaboo' is the newest of the bunch, and it reaches its milestone tenth period on the list this frame as it jumps to its new peak. The only musician who breaks up Lamar's streak is his frequent rival, Drake. The Canadian hip-hop star's 'Nokia' holds at its No. 2 high, as Lamar has blocked him from scoring another champion.

Kendrick Lamar Trades One No. 1 For Another — And Owns The Entire Top Three

Kendrick Lamar rules Billboard's Rap Airplay chart again as 'Luther' replaces his own 'TV Off' at ... More No. 1, while he also controls the entire top three. Morial Convention Center on February 06, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by) Kendrick Lamar has been enjoying a wildly successful run on Billboard's rap charts for months now. First, he grabbed headlines and dominated multiple tallies with 'Not Like Us,' his now-Grammy-winning Drake diss track. Then came GNX, his latest studio album that's packed with hits, many of which have become radio staples as of late. This week, Lamar continues his reign on one of the most important rap rankings in the U.S., and he does so by swapping out one of his own smashes for another. On this week's Rap Airplay chart, Lamar is back on the top, but not with the same song that was leading last frame. Instead, 'Luther,' his collaboration with SZA, lifts from No. 2 to No. 1 on the ranking, displacing one of his own tunes in the process. The cut has now spent 18 weeks on the tally, though this is only its second frame ruling the list. Just last week, 'TV Off' was the top track across rap radio in America. The tune, which credits both Lamar and Lefty Gunplay, is pushed down to No. 2, as 'Luther' takes over once more, with DJs and radio programmers switching which GNX cut they prefer. This frame, Lamar does something few artists will ever achieve — he controls the top three spots on one of Billboard's radio charts. Coming in behind 'Luther' and 'TV Off' is 'Squabble Up,' a solo effort and the original focus track from GNX. That tune is up to No. 3 this week, its highest placement yet on the ranking. 'Squabble Up' has now spent 19 weeks on the Rap Airplay list, one more than either 'Luther' or 'TV Off.' So far, it's only peaked at No. 3, but if its upward ascent continues, Lamar may swap out a winner for the third week in a row – earning a trio of champions in a row. Just outside the highest tier, another GNX track is on the rise. 'Peekaboo,' which features AzChike, inches up one space to No. 13. That position represents a new peak for the tune, now in its sixth week on the Rap Airplay chart. While it still has some distance to cross before it comes close to giving Lamar one more ruler, his winning streak could continue. Even if 'Peakaboo' doesn't hit No. 1, if the cut breaks into the top 10 – which seems likely – it will be a major win for the rapper, as it's extremely rare for any act to occupy a quartet of spots inside the loftiest tier on any of Billboard's airplay tallies at the same time, especially as a lead act.
