Tweakments, fillers and botox – how much does it really cost to knock a decade off your face?
Whether it's friends, neighbours or celebrities posturing on social media - what people have had 'done' to their face is an irresistible topic of conversation. From Botox to fillers, to Morpheus 8 and profilo, its quite likely that what's commonly known as 'tweakments' has piqued your curiosity. But how do you make sure you look youthful rather than slightly odd?
Most patients are keen to avoid suddenly looking different and like they've 'had work done', say Harley Street surgeons Dr David Jack and Dr Joney De Souza. Neck is definitely a secondary concern, though that area does tend to show a bit more ageing because, often, people have been good with skincare on their face but have forgotten to use SPF on their necks.
The aim is to look subtly refreshed and then maintain that. 'I would say that with early enough intervention it's possible to hold onto your looks for an extra decade or 15 years,' says Dr Jack. 'Patients come to me from the age of 35 onwards with the mindset of wanting to maintain their looks for as long as possible. It's less about turning back time as stopping in its tracks. But there's maintenance needed, and it's not cheap. I have patients who I see three to four times a year, and each time they'll spend maybe between £2,000-£3,000 each time. So you do need to think about your realistic budget.
'You need to consider what you afford, though Botox is the starting point. There's still a place for surgery because there comes a time when non-surgical things start to look a bit 'weird' and it becomes the time to maybe think about doing something slightly more interventionist. Because of my background in plastic and reconstructive surgery, when I worked for the NHS, I'm able to be honest in judging whether non-invasive treatments.'

What are tweakments?
Tweakments are non-surgical cosmetic procedures which are administered to subtly enhance appearance. They offer natural-looking results without invasive surgery and can soften lines and wrinkles, tighten the skin, and add volume to ageing faces. However, they tend to be temporary and require regular maintenance.
The procedures include injectable treatments, lasers, and skin peels and most commonly target different areas of the face such as the forehead, eyes, nose, and cheeks. Almost 8 million people – over 10 per cent of the population – received tweakments in the UK in 2023, according to Rare: Consulting. They tend to cost between £200-£2,000 and patients may need two to four sessions per year to maintain the effects.
What is the most popular tweakment?
Over 8.8 million Botox injections were performed by plastic surgeons globally in 2023, making it the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
These were followed by hyaluronic acid fillers which are used to add volume and plumpness to areas like the face and lips. Over 5.5 million hyaluronic acid tweakments were performed in 2023.
The Harley Street Journal highlights the popularity of lip fillers in the UK, with a report from their clinics revealing that the procedure accounts for nearly 60 per cent of all filler treatments across the country. Other popular tweakments in the UK include cheek contouring and jawline or chin filler.
